What to do about hair appointment that's now beginning to clash with work

I got partial highlights done in May (middle of may) to help blend previous bleach work.

These highlights are grown out now. I meant to make an appointment before now for more highlights and to refresh my look. I have an appointment booked for the 20th of September. For the morning time and that's on a Friday.

I work in care and I booked the appointment in good faith thinking that I would be free for a few hours that morning but now it looks like I will likely be needed in work that day for a longer day.
.I went online to reschedule my appointment but my hairdresser has no availability until october.

My work says I can still go to my hair appointment but it's coming from a man who has no idea that it's going to be 3 hours 20 mins. That's the time online for the work.

I put in a lot of hard work this summer and it's often relentless with the hours and intensity and I hate putting my own needs last.

I don't fancy cancelling my appointment with my hairdresser and putting it out for another month. Because there will be more excuses come October.

This is my head right now.

It badly needs to be done.

Or wills I find another salon and hairdresser with more availablity but my hairdresser knows me and my hair now.

Even a toner needs a patch test. It’s a legal requirement in the UK and it’s important. Anyone can develop an allergy to anything at any time.

I never had a patch test done. My hairdresser never said anything to me ever about a patch test. Do hairdressers invite you in before your appointment or is it on your own back to book a patch test.

I doubt I need it because I go for semi colours and I think it's so much more less likely to have an allergy to them fashion colours.

I think if I was going back close to my natural colour I would likely need a test done.

I have never been allowed colour or bleach without having a patch test at least every six months, or on my first visit to a new salon and then six monthly after that.

Are you sure your hairdresser has never dabbed anything behind your ears? That’s normally how they do the patch test. Then tell you what to do if you feel any itching or soreness.

It would be seriously negligent of a salon not to do patch tests. It’s to check you’re not allergic/sensitive to the dies they plan to use.

I think you simply say you have an appointment in the morning and give your availability for the day. Your employer can agree or not.

I don’t think it matters what your hair looks like. If you can get the time off, great. If you can’t, you can’t.

No my hairdresser never did a patch test on me ever.

I have a tiktok account and a tiktok hairdresser explained it that people sometimes react to dyes when they go darker. There's something in darker dyes.

I'm likely less likely to react to any dye due to a semi fashion colour dye.

Highlights aren't "semi-permanent fashion colours". It's literally bleaching your hair! Patch test should have been done.

Is this about hair or about the fact that your employer doesn't seem to let you take any leave? What holiday entitlement do you have?

Sorry totally not what you asked but I agree with PP that your scalp looks inflamed. Also I notice you have some hair thinning. I also had this for a few years and previously coloured (bleached) my hair a lot. I stopped dying my hair and it took a few years but the hair thinning stopped. Although it may have been nothing to do with hair dye, I am very glad I reversed the hair loss.

I never bleached my hair or dyed my hair until this year. That thinning you see has been there for a few years and I am addressing that and it's getting much better now.

My thinning is likelt due to a few different factors that I addressed:

  • stress
  • health issues and gut issues. Now diagnosed and I focus on good health and overall body inflammation.
  • poor diet when I was younger
  • poor haircare practices
  • likely even hormonal too.

I turned all that around and I am looking after my hair and I focus on gut health and good foods and drinks. I do slip up at times but overall it's good.

There's definitely a huge difference in my hair and the thickness and hopefully I can halt any more thinness and loss and prevent it.

Actually I am wearing my hair in a ponytail and I think the top of my hair looks like this when I have a ponytail. If I wear my hair down it doesn't look like this.
