I feel at peace with myself in my 60s.

Yesterday was a very big birthday for me .....66 years old, officially a pensioner and all that goes with it.
I've kind of dreaded this birthday, not because I feel old & over the hill, anything but.
I only retired last summer after a 44 year career in teaching.

I still feel incredibly young at heart & thankfully I'm in very good health.
However, there's no getting away with it, I'm 66, two weeks younger than Madonna but I'm very much embracing my retirement and all that goes with it, I really don't miss a career that very much defined me as a person. I like what I see when I look in the mirror & I've never felt more confident.

How do others feel?
Am I the only one who is embracing being 66?

Enjoy your freedom! Teaching for all your life takes its toll, go gently into your new life. It’s wonderful not getting up at 6am on a cold, freezing winters morning. Also, cosying up on a late winters afternoon. No more missing events because there’s no random days off when teaching, empty airports because you can go on holiday at anytime and freedom to choose what you do.
As long as you’re healthy it’s great!

Good for you! This is what I like to hear. Very refreshing. Now you sit back and you enjoy your life after all the hard work you’ve put in. Any fun plans?

I am 67 and have throughly enjoyed letting go of the need to work and earn money. I am quite disabled with chronic conditions that make me very fatigued. But I love to drive so have got myself a little motor home and am planning on a three month trip around southern Europe starting in October. When I’m tired I can pull into the next campsite and take a break. So looking forward to it.
