Can your body suddenly reject alcohol

Needler11 · 01/09/2024 00:49

A few weekends ago I went out with friends. Got a bit drunk. Nothing too bad, certainly been in worst states! The next morning I felt a little hungover and I spent a few hours throwing up which I thought was unusual as in my whole adult life I’ve never thrown up from a hangover. Thought I might have just drunk more than I thought or I could have eaten something dodgy/bug.

Had no alcohol since then apart from tonight as had a friend come over so had 3 small glasses of wine which is not much for me. Haven’t felt drunk one bit all night. Woke up about half an hour ago feeling really bloated and sick and ran into the bathroom and threw up🤮

I don’t think I’ve eaten anything out of the ordinary and nobody else in the house has been ill so I’m wondering if my body just does not like alcohol anymore🤔

Hope that’s it for the vomit, I hate being sick😫

Oh no! Well it might be - the only way to really know is give it another test? During the day maybe? Or alternatively never drink again 😂

Aquamarine1029 · 01/09/2024 00:56

Very common in peri-menopause.

Needler11 · 01/09/2024 00:57

@FuckThePoPo Think I’ll go with the latter🥴🤣

It doesn't sound like you drink too often considering these instances were a couple weeks apart. Is it possible you are simply having too much? Maybe too much too fast? Did you eat before drinking ?

It could be due to hormonal changes that aren't necessarily peri-menopause. You're getting older, your hormone levels are changing.

LondonGrimmer · 01/09/2024 00:58

Pregnant?!

MoveItOnUp · 01/09/2024 00:59

Could you be pregnant?

I was coming on to say are you in your 40’s. I saw something about it very recently. Something like we can no longer break down the enzymes.

Welcome to getting older.

You can still drink, you just need to manage it more carefully. One glass of wine on an empty stomach and after a stressful day might finish you off. Eat before you drink, stay WAY more hydrated than you usually do, stop before you think you need to and you’ll usually be fine.

lots of posts between me reading the op and posting!

what about this ^

Aquamarine1029 · 01/09/2024 01:01

Welcome to getting older.

Exactly.

Things change A LOT, op. When you're in your 20's, you really don't appreciate how much your body changes as you get older. It can be a rather rude awakening.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 01/09/2024 01:01

I also came here to say, could you be pregnant?? Similar happened to me!

Needler11 · 01/09/2024 01:05

I bloody hope I’m not pregnant😅

Maybe I’m just getting older then. Throughout my twenties I’ve always been able to drink quite a fair bit and not suffer with hangovers or sickness and well now it looks as if that’s changing!

I had this on my first pregnancy, some friends decided that I was being precious not drinking and put vodka in my orange juice. They apologised a few years ago, 20 odd year later.

I've also developed an intolerance to beer. I can drink six halves over a day if we're out, if I have any more than that my bowels forget to work properly. So far I'm OK on wines or cocktails.

I'm usually a lower drinker but do like to splurge if I'm on holiday or celebrating something.

Incakewetrust · 01/09/2024 01:30

Maybe take a pregnancy test 😅

Justonedayatatime11 · 01/09/2024 07:59

This is me!! Definitely not pregnant but now every time I have an alcoholic drink, no matter what it is, or how little I have, I'm sick the next morning. Only started in the last few months, it's so annoying!

OP is in her twenties 🙈

BirdIsland · 01/09/2024 08:23

Yes, happened to me about 10 years ago (so when I was about 30). Went from being able to handle alcohol 'normally' to one glass of wine making me sick, hungover and anxious. I didn't drink at all for ages (probably 3-4 years because it just wasn't worth it). I drink small amounts now but never more than a small glass or two. Never found out the reason, and eventually decided it wasn't particularly a bad thing.

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 01/09/2024 08:25

Were you drinking the same kind of drinks? I found in my early 30's I couldn't drink red wine anymore. It made me so ill. Even a small glass really plays havoc.

00BonneMaman00 · 01/09/2024 08:25

Do a pregnancy test op.
