Who loves London?

Personally I do.
Everything about it.
Studied, lived and worked there for a good 15+ years, only moved out to the home counties to buy bigger house when kids arrived.
Just spent 5 days at the in-laws in Zone 2.
Totally satisfied my London fix 😍

Anyone else ❤️ London?

@wavingfuriously all the major museums/galleries are free unless you are going to a specific limited run exhibition.

Thanku, It seems to be the exhibitions that have really put their entrance fees up...kind of angers me, some peeps just can't afford to enjoy these things..

Needmorelego · 31/08/2024 20:48

@wavingfuriously by charging for the special exhibitions it often means the museums/galleries can afford to stay free for general admission. If they didn't do that then many would have to charge an entrance fee as standard and even more people would miss out.

Exactly this. The alternative is increasing taxes to fund free exhibitions @wavingfuriously. They are expensive to put on. As well as most museums & galleries being free, & free local authority museums London is full of incredible churches and public buildings and fascinating architecture & parks & you can often hear free music in churches and concert halls like the Festival Hall. There are all sorts of festivals. Open house is coming up in September which opens buildings all over the capital for free open-city.org.uk/open-house-festival-2024

I love London! Live 2 hours away but have to go in frequently for work. I love the fact you can do so much, any night of the week. See a show, watch some comedy, eat food from all over the world… see a band. I love the choice and excitement.

I thought I’d love NYC as I love London, but found it far too high rise/densley packed compared to how green London actually is!

Needmorelego · 31/08/2024 21:57

@CuttySarcasm but you can do that in plenty of other places in the UK.

LaurieFairyCake · 31/08/2024 21:59

Yep. 16 minutes from Charing Cross

Love it here so much

Catandsquirrel · 31/08/2024 22:06

I love it beyond measure. It's my home. I feel like it took me in.

ZittiEBuoni · 31/08/2024 22:10

London is the best. I don't live there any more but have just come back from a couple of days there. Saw a prom, saw yet another room of the V&A I didn't know existed, went to yet another brilliant museum I hadn't been to before (Leighton House, fabulous). Great food, beautiful parks, the best people watching always. I do miss it in many ways, but I have to admit I will never love the tube, despite its being an objectively excellent transport solution.

Crikeyalmighty · 31/08/2024 22:10

I love 'lots of it'but in all honestly it's very area dependent on how I feel-

LilianaVikavanovich · 31/08/2024 22:14

We live in the arse end of nowhere (Wales ) and our adult DC have made the move and probably won’t be back

I love it there , and if I could afford too , I’d move into a terraced cottage in somewhere cheapish
We went last weekend , queued with DD to see the Taylor Swift tour at the V * A ( free ) all the lovely parks to wander round

it’s fab

ZittiEBuoni · 31/08/2024 22:19

DD and I were discussing the mansion blocks by the Albert Hall yesterday @weAllWanttheBest - couldn't decide whether we'd live there or in the 'Holland Park Artist Colony' (Melbury Road/Ilchester Gardens) given the choice.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 31/08/2024 22:25

Loved it when I lived there in my 20s. I was glad to leave when I did though. I niw love it as a place to occasionally visit! I've probably only been 3 times in the lastv10 years.

Mimilamore · 31/08/2024 22:41

I love it, need a fix every few weeks , lucky to live about an hour away.... it satisfies my need for history, culture, green spaces, good food and people watching.

Bonjovispjs · 31/08/2024 23:13

I used to love it, moved here when I was 16, but I'm a different person now at the age of 58, doesn't hold the same appeal for me anymore. I plan to move away as soon as I retire.

Some friends of mine spent five years living in New York, but eventually returned here as they found it too small. London is absolutely huge in comparison.

I love Leighton House. Did you to go Sambourne House, too?

I only thoroughly appreciate the tube when I’m in NY dealing with the under-lit, under-signposted hellscape of the subway.

London fans! I am off to London today for a couple of days, I love to wander aimlessly through the streets of London taking in all the sights which is what I plan to do tomorrow as my host is at work all day. Does anyone have any recommendations (low cost or free) for anywhere in particular to go/see/do.

I'll be in central London probably get the tube to south bank/borough area and take it from there. Happy to traipse around and cover some distance or get the tube around, so I don't need to restrict myself to only there.

Needmorelego · 05/09/2024 11:31

Edited

Maybe walk along river from London Bridge/Borough to South Bank, then cross river up to Trafalgar Sq, then wander through Covent Garden, then you could head into Chinatown and Soho. That would be a nice wander with plenty of places of interest, cafes, shops, museums along the way. Do take a brolly though.

Peonies12 · 05/09/2024 11:43

I love it! We moved out last year to be closer to family for childcare, fortunately we can be in London in 1 hour on the train, we go regularly. I miss living there though, going to theatre midweek with cheap tickets and cycling around (especially during Covid!).

LaSourciereEfrontee · 05/09/2024 11:43

IDontHateRainbows The London Mithream is walkable from Borough and is free. It’s absolutely fascinating and a very smart museum (funded by Bloomberg.) Combine it with a wander around Spitalfields for less queues and good street food (Borough is a total bun fight nowadays.) as well as vintage and craft stalls. A bit of a window shop in Leadenhall market. Then a visit to the Whitechapel gallery) and ice cream at Darlish (can you tell I’m an East End lover?) www.londonmithraeum.com

Yes, annoyingly it is 25 degrees and sunny up north tomorrow but rainy in London - just my luck as it is usually the other way around!
