Cafetiere on screen - hot coffee!?

On movies/TV shows, so often a character will go into a kitchen and help themselves to a cafetiere coffee that someone else has made or looks as though it's been sat around for a while. Is my £15 Dunelm cafetiere a dudd because the coffee in it cools as quickly as if it was in a cup and unless it's drank quickly after making, it's cold.

Obviously I know TV/movies aren't real but it's the implication that this is a normal thing and the coffee would still be warm.

Am I missing a trick?

Just to be clear, is an American pot different to a UK filter coffee machine???

Pretty much the same thing.

Daffyyellow · 31/08/2024 10:06

I think the Americans call cafetières ‘French Press’.

My cafetière is 25+ years old when mostly all you could buy were Bodum ones, you can get replacement glass!

I think you need to get a sleeve to insulate yours, buy a smaller one and make more frequently or buy an insulated one.

I think this a bit like TV/films where at bedtime children are read a story, given a kiss and fall asleep as the adult walks away. It's bullshit that isn't real Grin

I have a metal cafetière with double walls and it's not bad at keeping coffee warm. I kept smashing the glass ones.

I've always had glass ones but now I've got a stainless steel one from Sainsbury's and it does a much better job at keeping the coffee hot.

You can buy a coffee thermos from IKEA for. £10, it looks great and keeps your drink warm for ages if you remember to heat if with boiling water first. That would save you having to bin a perfectly good cafetiere.

Not sure why OP is so surprised? Most drip machines have a keep warm feature. My parents had a filter coffee machine in the late 90s with a timer that you could set in the evening so it wound make you fresh coffee just as you woke up.
ETA: I prefer fresh bean to cup these days

£19! Sorry my typing skills are terrible.

People on TV don't actually drink the coffee they pour so it doesn't matter if it's cold.

I don't think you need to take it as a realistic depiction of how people drink coffee :D
