I'm so sleepy but I keep getting uncontrollable coughing fits that make me throw up :) Any advice? I cough up clear/white mucus

Gah, I am prone to coughs and they suck, so you have my sympathy. Only advice is to try and sleep as upright as you can manage. I usually stack a few pillows and then use a travel pillow to support my neck / head. I've resorted to sleeping upright on the sofa sometimes, but it does help. When you lay flat, that aggravates the cough. Also if you have anything that will make you sleepy like antihistamines take that, as will help you stay asleep once you drift off. Good luck!

Throat numbing spray works for me as it stops the tickle at the back of your throat.

There's lots of anecdotal evidence about vicks on your soles, then putting socks on, but I've never tried it myself.

Try to take slow, deep breaths. Getting worked up makes it worse.

Sleep with an extra pillow, so that you're propped up instead of lying down.

The only thing that heals coughs is time - but these tips might make it more bearable!

Did you have childhood vaccinations for whooping cough? There is a massive influx of it this year, and adults can be susceptible too. In children, the cough is often following by vomiting, but I'm not sure about in adults.https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/whooping-cough/

Have you checked if its covid? You can buy tests at supermarkets or order them online.

It could be any respiratory illness really. Do you have any underlying health problems? Young children that bring each and every germ into the house?

I'd ring 111 for advice. If it is whooping cough, you need antibiotics, normally clarithromycin to treat it.

Get some Night Nurse if you can get it. It helped me sleep when I had pneumonia last winter & stopped the nightly coughing fits. Also have a very cold drink at the side of the bed, this helped enormously, I put my water in the freezer for a few hours on fast freeze & then as it melted poured it into my insulated drinks flask which kept it cold all night.

Yes Vicks on soles has worked (sometimes) for me. Spoonful of honey and propped up as much as you can to sleep. Hope you feel much better soon.

A teaspoon of honey will calm a cough really well. Aside from that try some bronchostop pastilles. They are excellent.
