September - anyone want to sort out their life?

Mines a bit of a rut and I want to improve things.
I've got into bad food habits and need to be healthier and shape up.
I've got some supplements to take.
I need to be generally more organised and will be doing 'night before' tasks.
My biggest goal is to have less stressed Sundays! That means getting organised for meals, packed lunches, uniforms and cleaning so I'm not running around like a headless chicken! Instead I want to go for wholesome walks, read and cook nice food.
Anyone else?

@HighQueenOfTheFarRealm I have a charity shop collection this week, for any random books/ clothes/ toys etc plus all the clothes which the DC have trashed, they can make money out of them which is handy.

@Diplidocus4 I had a massive book clearout before Christmas last year, got everything together, all duplicates and things I was never going to read went to the charity shop... also anything I had or could buy cheaply on Kindle. I am completely converted to Kindle books now, find them much easier apart from the ones with maps, I do like a good map/ illustration!

I had my day off and didn't get as much organising done as I'd like - had to go to a bank appointment which took a couple of hours, almost half of my free time - but it was to close an old account which has around £200 in, so worthwhile if I get the money. Hoping to take another day or half day soon to finally get some life admin done...

Sourisblanche · 10/09/2024 09:50

I’m definitely being more organised. I wrote a to-do list yesterday and worked through it. Going to finish a few admin bits this morning.

Also walking more, well over 10k steps yesterday, but I haven’t got back into yoga yet and I really need to do this as I’m feeling a bit creaky.

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 10/09/2024 11:06

I'm so annoyed at my own disorganisation. I forgot to call someone this morning about a work related thing.
Now I'm waiting for them to respond to my apologetic email. It's not a major thing but it's still annoying because I wish I was more organised!
I've managed to do a bit more clearing out and I want to tackle the kitchen area. I'm thinking of clearing a shelf every other day.

Can I join? Just started a new job the day after holiday, my first week involved couple of days away at a conference, my parents visited last weekend and this weekend is first family camping trip - feels like it's been a lot of non-routine. Annoyingly didn't start September perfectly but I managed to make a reasonably healthy packed lunch this morning (which Id like to do more) and I usually walk a reasonable amount. But house is overwhelming chaos, my diet's not great, I don't do other exercise and there's so much I need to have more of a routine for - I tend to overthink and everything seems to take longer than necessary.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/09/2024 22:57

Oh I want to join too!

I was doing so well but since the school holidays my whole system has descended into a spiral of rat shit and I need to get myself back in the game

Exercise is fine, it's the only thing that I do consistently
Food is absolutely diabolical
House needs a deep clean plus I want to smash through some jobs
I feel brain foggy and completely overwhelmed by everything. I lay my head on my desk today and took a disco nap at 2pm.

Slightly delayed start to super September but before the end of the month I want to:
Go to the tip
Sort out my bathroom design
Stick a load of stuff on vinted
Deep clean
Get back into my nice healthy whole foods diet and have a few weeks off drinking alcohol

KimKardashiansLostEarring · 13/09/2024 07:01

Well done everyone! Nearly half way through September already, crazy!

Week 1 of new job done, after 9 years as a SAHM I’m feeling pretty pleased and I didn’t cry once! It wasn’t exceptional or anything but think a pretty confident start!

Need to go to tip AGAIN as so much online shopping - Ikea delivery, door mats etc. Need to get the Ikea shelves I bought up on DS’s wall and then his room will be tidier. Door mats are ugly but will protect our expensive new floors so feeling very grown up for that.

Things like skincare and flossing are slipping I’m sorry to say, and I haven’t seen DH properly for ages but I have at least upped my exercise slightly (from 0 to once a week 😐 how do people find time??), I’m kind of eating less and the laundry is actually gradually getting more organised. And I don’t think I’ve forgotten anything school related yet!

Thanks for this thread, finding it helpful.

Checking in. Went to the gym last night for first time since June after a 10 day AI and an operation in July! Ended up with a cricked neck and my 5k was more walking than running but it’s done! Been eating 4 pieces of fruit daily and have got a course I wanted to do approved by work so I just need to book it now! Spilt nail polish on our brand new footstool in July and the cleaner I used left an awful smell in it but today it’s gone after weeks of trying to deodorise it! It’s small things but I’m feeling better. Just nee to keep practicing mindfulness over my anxiety- mainly work related to do with my colleague and holiday allocation- long story but something is triggering me there. Anyway I’m going to slimming world in the morning. Been tracking my food all week so if it doesn’t show this week I need to be consistent x

IDareSay · 19/09/2024 11:40

How is everyone getting on?

I got off to a good start and I'm still on schedule with decluttering and the Christmas Cleanalong. Getting some niggly little jobs ticked off and DH has really got stuck in with clearing the garage and sorting out his own list of house jobs to do.

I have stuck to my weight training schedule too, now into week 5 and had to move up to some heavier weights.

Not so great on the eating front; meal planning and IF going well but far too many 'extras' have crept in; wine, cake, chocolate! None of which I need but I have slipped into feeling the need to 'treat' myself, when in fact all I am doing is sabotaging my healthy eating. So having a bit of a reset today and planning to be stricter for the last 12 days of September.

DeathMetalMum · 19/09/2024 22:08

I'm doing OK. I am really putting the work into my course at work, and have hit one milestone and moving closer to the next. I have adjusted a few things to make this easier.

In terms of exercise I am back doing yoga but only managing 2x week currently. I need to fit an extra session in at least. I am also trying to increase my seteps/improve my diet. I would like to loose about half a stone. I've been trying to cut out snacking in the evening after dinner. I am allowing my self snacks at the weekend. So far so good, except tonight which I will make an exception as I was out with dc at high school open evening all evening and had to have dinner early.

I am continuing with decluttering/sorting and have dealt with a few problem areas. We had a bit of a flea problem with our dcats so this has disrupted things a little.

I still don't feel fully in the swing of back to school just yet.

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 19/09/2024 22:26

I've been managing 16:8 this week, but otherwise not great - need to exercise more and get more stuff done. Just did some tidying but it highlights how we have too much stuff everywhere and I'm currently half listening to a podcast and scrolling at the same time which I know isn't what I want to be doing. Im just constantly so low energy in the evenings and feel rubbish about myself.

DaisyWells · 19/09/2024 23:48

I'm still desperately trying to find ways of using my time more productively, still not enough hours in the day!! If I could only find an extra two hours I could do some exercise, batch cooking etc... evenings till 10pm are almost completely taken up with the DC's bedtimes/ activities and then I have to sort out packed lunches, do some cleaning and tidying, sort out washing etc etc. I feel like I need a day off per week just to get myself straight but can't drop any hours at work!

@prettygirlincrimsonrose I watched all the Sort Your Life Out programmes and read The Organised Mum Method books - both just opened my eyes to the fact that we had far too much STUFF in a small house Blush honestly, I took a couple of days off this time last year and went through the house decluttering, booked a charity shop collection and got rid of bags and bags and bags and bags of things. Our local charity shop also takes rags so any clothes and shoes in poor condition could go there too. I gave away loads of the DC's DVDs, soft toys, bedding etc which they'll never use again - plus books when I had duplicate copies/ Kindle copies/ wasn't going to read again. It was very cathartic! However DP (who says he loves a clutter free house) cannot seem to see an empty space without filling it with some of his crap, so I have an ongoing battle...

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 20/09/2024 07:02

@DaisyWells yep, love Sort Your Life Out and I know 'it's technically not completely useless' and 'I really did intend to use it and I don't want to admit I'm never going to' are not sensible reasons for keeping things. Frustratingly I tried to take some things to our local charity shop last week and they weren't accepting donations, but I know posting on local giveaway sites would be a reasonable option - will commit to actually getting things out the house this week and report back!

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 20/09/2024 07:45

Glad this is still going!
I've had highs and lows.
I've managed to sort out a really cluttered bit of our house. Took things to a charity shop and to the dump. I also want to sort out the rest of the area.
It's a side bit to the kitchen and gathers things. Ive seen a counter top "cupboard" I'd love to put there so stuff can be a bit more organised but it's a bit pricey and I need to build up our savings again post summer.
I've also started a course and enjoying that.
Food wasn't going well but is a lot better now. Water needs to be upped too.
Excercise needs to be upped too. I go for regular walks and I used to do 10 minute weight work out which I'm trying to do but haven't yet.
10 minutes! I have 10 minutes! Why I can't I get round to it??

I’ve finally got my course at work approved and it’s just in the final stages of being ordered now so I know I’m going to be busy with that. I haven’t been to the gym this week but was out mon and Tuesday and weds was my wedding anniversary so we had a nice meal at home. Yesterday I was ferrying dd around and had to go to the library. Tonight I volunteer at brownies and were also taking them out for the day tomorrow so I’m hoping Sunday I can go! House isn’t really that cluttered. So I’m just concentrating on trying not to spend money really. We need a new shoe storage thing but I don’t want to buy any more furniture as we’re saving to buy our first house. I’m 43 and DH 40 so it’s now or never really. Diet wise I’ve not been good this week. Pizza yesterday as was busy and macmillan coffee morning at work so had cake but back on it now

DaisyWells · 22/09/2024 10:33

@prettygirlincrimsonrose how strange about the charity shops, the ones round us are crying out for donations! Which is just as well as I had so many duplicate/ no longer needed items Blush I also pared my spare toiletries stash down a lot (can you tell I had a lot of stuff I didn't need?!) and donated that to the local homeless charity, who are always looking for donations.

@HighQueenOfTheFarRealm I have some useful exercises to do every day for my awful diastasis recti. The exercises are 10 minutes long. I don't find time for them either Blush

@teaandtoastwithmarmite my DC go to Cubs, I sometimes help out with their days out which are er, quite stressful Grin they come back having had a great time and ready to do something else such as their football training, I come back exhausted!

I need to clean out the fridge and meal plan for this week. Sigh. Currently procrastinating...

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/09/2024 20:45

@DaisyWells yes I know what you mean🤣. Had a lovely day though. This morning I ended up taking DD to ikea for bits for her room. DH was going to go but when I said I’d like to come along he was like ok I’ll let you two go 😂. Didn’t go to gym.

DaisyWells · 24/09/2024 00:07

@teaandtoastwithmarmite the DC had a great time with Cubs this evening and came home utterly filthy. No idea how as the other kids seemed clean enough Confused

I'm still struggling to fit everything into the day (hence the very late night posts!) - I mean I have lists and if I could follow them all would be well! But there aren't enough hours in the day to do everything on my lists AND all the normal everyday stuff of cooking, washing, making packed lunches etc...

Sourisblanche · 01/10/2024 11:12

Shall we try and keep this going through October?

What went well for me in September; exercise and being organised. Got through a lot of my admin niggle list. Started a new French class.

Not so well; yoga, housework and reading. Although I did start a new book last night! Onwards (until half-term derails everythingGrin).
