Hey please can I get all your tips for when having guests and how to make things go smoothly and enjoyable. Not hosted a family sleepover and have form for disorganisation 😂

Air the room they'll be staying in and put freshly washed bed linen on the bed. I normally fold a throw/blanket at the end of the bed in case they get cold and need an extra layer or hot and prefer to use that instead of a duvet.

I put a clean bath sheet and hand towel for each person on the end of the bed along with a shower puff/scrunch thing.

A lamp is useful so they don't have to wander in the dark to turn on/off the main light.

I ask about breakfast preferences so I can get in favourite cereal, yogurt, fruit, what have you.

Show them where the kettle, drinks, mugs, snacks are kept and tell them to help themselves to whatever they want, whenever they want. Also show them how things work like the shower, the tv.

That's about it, I think!

I also put a nice box on top of the dresser with handcream, a hairdryer, phone/ipad charger, selection of snacks like bottled water, kettle chips, Pringles, nuts, biscuits and haribo 🥰 (I've stayed at friends/relatives houses before where I've been hungry and felt too rude to ask for something 🤣) I also pop a couple of sleep masks in the basket.

No real need for the snacks I guess, but my guests have all eaten them and said what a nice idea it is (and then reciprocated 🤣🤣).

I'd also put two big towels out per person, as well as a hand towel, as most women use one to wrap around their body and another on their head to wrap hair in.

I have a selection of great books on the window ledge and, if children are visiting, a toy box - I have young grandchildren so know what it's like travelling with children. They have their own things but love exploring a new box of exciting things 🥰

I love having visitors, and by the amount of 'returns' I get, they like to visit 💓

Aside from the physical things mentioned above, I think not knowing what to expect makes guests a bit nervous. So let them know your usual routine. For example 'we usually get up by 9 on weekends and take the dog for a walk/go to the gym/have breakfast first thing'. If they get up earlier you can leave breakfast things out and tell them to help themselves, if later make it clear if an activity is planned what time they need to be ready.
Make plans in advance - are they expecting you to show them around and have activities arranged (site seeing, beach trip, whatever)? Or are they there to hang out with you (still nice to have something planned) then you can be a bit looser with scheduling.
Are they the type to pitch in and help cooking dinner/wash up? Or maybe you can't stand having someone mess about while you are trying to cook - whichever make it clear! If they offer say 'thanks I've got it under control but you could set the table' or 'great these onions need chopping'! If they expect to be waited on hand and foot just be happy they aren't permanent guests!
So communication is key; let them know what to expect in terms of the day and also ask if there's something in particular they'd like to do. As it's family hopefully you know them well enough to express freely!

I would like a clean room. Spare blanket just in case. Bath towel and hand towel.
A mirror with a plug socket in reach for hairdryer.
l’m an early riser and need a brew so would love to be shown where the tea things are and be told to help myself. If the weather is nice and I’m up alone I like to be able to go outside with my brew so knowing where the back door key is is also helpful.
Very specific to me I know 😁
