Will priority seating ever be just that?

Will there ever be anyone to monitor it? It’s jus t impossible, isn’t it. I get sick of relying on the kindness of strangers that can see I’m not well. And they are never sat in the priority seats. Like tonight coming home on the tube my leg is fat and throbbing chemo due in Monday which I hope will shift it. All four priority seats in carriage are taken. I mean what are the chances of all four people needing priority seating when they look like they’ve just left the office? And I absolutely understand not all disability is visible which is why I would never say anything. The bus is even worse. There isn’t an answer is there?

Just ask. They’re not meant to be left empty just in case.

I avoid them if I can, but if it’s the only seat then I’ll use it. I will try to keep half an eye out, but I’m not going to stop reading and constantly scan the packed carriage looking for people who might need it. I will leap up if you ask, or if you have a badge.

I wish they had a general and regular announcement on the tubes - similar to the ‘mind the gap’ one reminding people to offer priority seats to those who need them.

If a tube train is busy of course people will be sitting in the priority seats (as PPs have said, they’re not reserved, just there to be given up for someone more in need of them). In my experience (commuting by tube pretty much daily), people will absolutely offer a seat if they know someone needs it. You just need to ask or get one of those badges. Often someone else will point out a fellow passenger wearing a badge if they don’t speak up themselves or get noticed by someone sitting.

Sorry to hear about your treatment @EachandEveryone , I hope you feel better soon.

This happens on some lines and is a very good idea. I wish more did it. We get reminded to keep bags out of the doors often enough!

I've just returned from a few days in London. I have mobility issues and use a stick. I was so pleasantly surprised by how many people offered me a seat. I didn't have to stand once, people were so lovely on both the tube and train
