Well, that's new on me...(gig related)

I'm off to a gig in Sheffield with dd1 and her friend in a couple of weeks. It's the friends first gig, & a band who dd1 interacts with quite a lot, in a teeny venue.

Dd1 asked the band members she chats with what the vibe/dress code is for their gig & their reply was along the lines of "think Halloween", so now they're planning outfits with fishnets, lace, & lots of black & I'm wondering wtf I should wear 🤣!

I fear I may be out of place in my diy sparkly trainers, that I wore for Taylor, and pink cargos 🙄

wear what you want. the band will.

Bringbackthedodo · 29/08/2024 09:07

The band got the reaction they wanted. I assume your daughter is a teenager and the band young men? Wear whatever you're comfortable in, no one cares about dress code at gigs.

I suspect at this event a mum is meant to be a somewhat invisible means of transport and cash...so hell yes I'd wear the sparkly trainers.Grin

StopStartStop · 29/08/2024 09:09

Don't take up with the singer. Daughters don't like it.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2024 09:12

Though probably the word they wanted was 'goth' so ditch the pink cargos

00BonneMaman00 · 29/08/2024 09:15

I don't think they'll care op x

I brought my daughter to a few gigs when she was younger and had to have an adult with her for some venues.

One place used to have an area for the adults - comfy seats, soft lighting, away from the speakers - so I'd be parked there with other parents while the teens danced, hopefully your venue is like that, it was such a relaxing way to spend an evening.

If it's all seating, you should get to know the music in advance so you can join in - i've seen parents sitting looking very grumpy when the whole stadium was on its feet singing along to a band.

I'd wear the sparkly trainers, but with a black t-shirt!

lucysmam · 29/08/2024 09:31

@Bringbackthedodo they're actually an indie girl band! But yes, the girls are both 17.

@Stewandsocks it's the other way round - all standing venue & definitely no mum area.

I don't mind the band really, it was just the "mum, there's a dress code" thing 🤣 & no, I'm not an invisible cash machine - we have very similar music taste so often go to gigs together & dd pays her own way since she got a job 🤯

Brilliant the girls are currently outfit planning in my kitchen - there's talk of actual Halloween costumes & glow in the dark nails 🙈🤣
