How do you imagine mumsnet

In my head I think MN is all posh . Prim and proper. They cook everyday from scratch with posh ingredients everything is healthy. They go to bed looking perfect and get up looking perfect . The house is always perfect there is never a mess.

They all live in lovely posh houses. They are well educated. They speak in an educated way.

Most problems are sorted out quickly through paid for through paid for therapy with no waiting lists abd anything legal through solicitors.

PLEASE NOTE: this is not real . This is it my head .

Literally get none of that from what I read on here. It's all lame questions about 'picky bits ' , FB squabbles & AI which I always think is a tech y question but no it's about the beige buffet in Spain again & what their DC won't eat🥱 See also sun loungers usually referred to as ' beds' which the OP has no intention of vacating lest they see something of the country they are visiting. Also obsessed with screen time. Incidentally 'posh' people never refer to themselves as posh as they think it's common & they don't bang on about cleaning 'their' lounge or stocking fillers in July either.

I don't get that from here either OP.

I think its a bunch of bored women - some have decent jobs, many don't. They live in regular houses and flats, in cities and small villages. They don't have many friends hence spending so much time on MN.

Some spend their time obsessed with trying to appear middle class, others are happy in their own skin.

There is a disproportionate number of teachers on MN.

There are many people who have children with SEN and so many of us are regular posters living very average lives who use MN as a break from our mundane day to day lives.

Rich people would not spend most of their evenings on MN.

Hehe, I'm fat, disabled, have about 3000 mental health diagnosis. DC have left home. I'm long divorced.

No gin here. Or even cake - and it's my birthday 😆 I have just had Uber Eats deliver spinach, cherry tomatoes and some wine though (just in case that makes me posh 😂).

Firstly @OldTinHat Happy Birthday .

I've had many chats with you including one about absolute cocks that appropriate usernames absolutely ages ago, and then I've not seen you since.

We were chatting about the failure of NC and this is the ultimate one -

For anyone confused I am not @OldTinHat I am @OIdTinHat

Anyway actual OldTin I doubt you remember or care but I thought it was interesting at the time. I promise I've never used this name (apart from original thread and now- and I'm happy for MN to hand it over/delete mine )

As for the OP, I think you should step away from the sherry 😉 😆

Like my neighbour

Well spoken, sounds good on paper, but perpetually disorganised and messy

merrymaryquitecontrary · 29/08/2024 07:46

Mumsnetters have massive salads for dinner on a weekday (anything else would be "far too heavy") and on a Sunday they have the ubiquitous MN chicken, which they stretch until the following Thursday, and then freeze the leftovers.

In my head the typical woman is mother to at least one child with SEN, possibly a second ND child, with an abusive exH. She works full time in a relatively well paid job and is well educated. Despite this money is very tight and stress levels are high. No help from family because they are NC. She is exhausted. Sadly it's made her cynical and distrustful of men. She doesn't have time for a social life but that suits her as she doesn't really like socialising, she finds small talk really difficult.

??? Is this a monologue?

Riverhillhouse · 29/08/2024 20:45

I haven’t noticed this really, not sure if it’s to do with the threads I click on. Seems like quite a mix on here albeit with a disproportionate number of SEN parents (myself included). Definitely a lot of competitive undereaters & a fair number of orthorexics with an obsession with avoiding USP!
One thing I do wonder is whether many people know others IRL that use mumsnet as a form of social media (rather than just via Google for specific questions)? I don’t really know anyone that uses MN like I do!

Nowordsformethanks · 29/08/2024 21:22

A mix of:

Working class and middle class.
Unemployed, retired, low paid jobs, a few on the managerial side.
Regular husbands, a few supervisors and managers who're the ones claimed to have busy, high salaries.
A lot of ex husbands and step dc.
Some single parents.
Regular homes including council-owned, housing association and mortgages; flats and houses.
Mostly young kids and teens; Mostly SEN.
Regular people from all walks of life, background, ethnicities and beliefs.
Some are struggling to make ends meet, others are coping well.

merrymaryquitecontrary · 30/08/2024 12:41

A mix but there do seem to be quite disproportionate trends of emetophobics, millionaires who had their first babies at 15 who were thrown out by their families and those with severely disabled dc.

Monkeysatonthewall · 30/08/2024 12:47

There are those who would never live in a semi-detached or terraced house. Or a house with no downstairs bathroom. Or a house with no office, playroom and at least one guest room. There are perfect mums whose children never cried even for a minute. And those who cook all meals from scratch. And those who try insulting OPs on every thread. And those who say LTB for anything.' He forgot to flush the toilet? Well, my suitcases would already be packed ', 'he didn't say hi when he walked through the door and you're not contacting a divorce lawyer yet?'.

And those who will tell anyone to give their head a wobble and have a word with themselves 🤪 are they the same as the people described above? Who knows.

It looks like most posts are written by THEM. But in reality, I think there are lots of average, standard, normal people who feel in the minority but we aren't. We're just silently reading the 'posh' posts while wobbling our heads.
