Hemnes IKEA Day Bed

Has anyone bought an IKEA Hemnes bed for their DC? I want to buy a bed with storage and I like the idea of being able to make it into a double if needed for sleepovers.

If you have one for your DC, do they like sleeping in it and is it as easy to use as it looks?

When I looked at this for my son I was told it's not an everyday bed as it's only made for occasional use and so got him a normal single with storage.

We looked into it but the mattress size is not the norm and the IKEA ones weren't really that comfortable.

We bought this one

We looked at it as well and decided against it as not really a proper bed for every day. We got the slakt instead and have another put up for sleepovers.

Agree I wouldn’t use it for every day- it’s not the sturdiest and the sizes are wrong! Having said that I have slept on one at an airbnb with an extra mattress topper and it was really comfortable

Thank you for the replies all. I didn’t even know about the sizing, so that has helped to make up my mind. I’ll have a look at other options now.
I still love the look of the bed though!

We absolutely love it and have had two over the years..

Perfect for storage, the drawers are HUGE, when fully extended bigger than a standard double so great for sleepovers, grandparents staying over etc.

I’ve never heard that it’s more for occasional use, with the two mattresses on top of each we have always found it mega comfy.

It's not great for taller teens. Nowhere for the feet to go if they can't stretch out

Having once made the mistake of buying an Ikea European sized mattress and living to regret it, all I’ll say is “I wouldn’t”

TheBunyip · 28/08/2024 09:07

My (teen) daughter sleeps on one and has for years. It’s fine. The mattress is a “European” size so a bit longer than a standard single but you can buy sheets from La Redoute etc.

We had one for years. Just used both mattresses on top of each other when it was used as a single (which it was the majority of the time) and then used the mattresses next to each other as a double (which was perfectly comfortable as was for occasional use like that anyway). We've now got it stored in the loft as it will be one of my kids beds once they are older.
The drawers are massive and can store soooo much. It's built well and managed to survive years of toddlers jumping all over it

This is what we thought too.

As an alternative, we have the slakt with a trundle bed and drawers. Find it really useful to have the occasional second single, and while the drawers aren’t huge they are useful. Or it has an option to have big drawers and no second bed. It’s a 90x200 mattress rather than 80x200.
