Women in Afghanistan aren’t allowed to receive medical help from a man.

But how will they receive any medical help at all of women aren’t allowed aren’t allowed any form of education?

This is why they have one of the worst % of women dying in childbirth I believe. The novel a Thousand Splendid Suns is worth a read.

This because the Taliban's goal is gendercide. They want women to suffer and to die.

I have said this so many times on here. Causing women to die in childbirth amounts to torture and murder IMO. Those cruel, stupid men are destroying their country. Their people will die out if women and children continue to die. It is just horrific.

There are some really interesting accounts of American soldiers who did multiple tours in Afghanistan. A consistent theme was that women do not feature in society and are expected to stay at home doing domestic chores and have kids. Nothing else. Also, and possibly as a result of this, many men in Afghanistan are gay because they can only talk to other men. Form connections with men, be seen in public with and so on.
It's not just women who suffer it's young children too. Look up the practice of Bacha Bazi. Must warn you it is horrific. The men in power are absolutely disgusting. Sorry to go off topic but I feel so sorry for the women and children there.

Thanks for bringing that horrendous "tradition" up. It shows you the mindset of the men that Afghan women have to deal with.

Ah wow. I just looked this practice up.
I wonder how many men in Afghanistan are ok with life under the Taliban. I don't want to think that the majority like all the benefits this brings them. But I wonder.
When you look how far reaching misogyny is, that which we know about here in our own spheres, can you consider that the majority of men could secretly want this. It's scary to me to contemplate. I see a rise online in terrifying male views.
Being active on MN has actually brought great awareness to me on this.

The thing is, men are mistreated by the Taliban as well. For example, if their beards are not long enough, they can be arrested. I wonder if men feel it's worth it as long as women are treated even worse, or if they hate the Taliban. I can't help but think that there are some in each category.

Has anyone seen photos online of Afghanistan in the 1960's and 1970's. It was very liberal, women could wear whatever they wanted and the King at the time encouraged a more liberal and free society. Same for Iran before the revolution.

Women used to have freedom and choice. It's a tragedy that they have gone so backwards and women have suffered needlessly.

Can you imagine living in a world where your grandmother could walk around in skirts going to university whereas you have to be covered up and can't go to school beyond age 11.
