Online singing lessons for kids

We are looking for singing lessons for our DD (9). We don’t have anyone locally and ideally it would be something she can do on a school night evening. DH and I both with full time so online lessons might be our best options.

Can anyone recommend online signing lessons with someone or a certain company? The companies I’m finding on google are hard to tell what’s good and what’s just a general bung you with anyone who is registered as a teacher situation.

I've just texted a fabulous singing teacher I know to see if she does online lessons.

Oh thank you so much! So sorry I didn’t reply yesterday.

I’ve heard back from her and unfortunately she doesn’t do online singing lessons. She suggests emailing your nearest university music department. There may well be some wonderful students or teachers there who could give face to face lessons.

Face to face is better for a beginner if at all possible - it's all about laying down a good technique etc (instead of learning repertoire, which comes later). This may be a stupid question, but have you checked with her school whether singing lessons are offered or can be arranged via the local music hub?

I’m a singing teacher - unfortunately I’d say that in-person lessons are crucial for a beginner of any age. You can’t assess breathing technique properly other than in person and bad technique can lead to so many bad habits down the line. Which can lead to pain and limited ability.

There HAS to be someone, I grew up in the middle of nowhere and had loads of different teachers! Singing was an offering through the school/local authority. Admittedly I started about 25 years ago.

Unfortunately her school only does group music lessons with an external company and they do not do singing (I have asked).

I’ve looked for a local one and asked on several local social media groups but nothing!

I totally agree in person would be better. I had singing lessons myself at secondary school.

I will try the nearest uni but it’s quite a way away. Ideally I need someone to come to our house or who is super local due to DH and I being full time it really limits time but if it was online or at our house it could happen while we are working if that makes sense.

@Littlefish thank you so much for asking
