Plum, Monzo etc are they trustworthy?

I need to use something like this but am reluctant to give a 3rd party access to my banking details. How trustworthy are they? I plan to use them and each month move the savings back to my main bank, can you do that?

Just in the process of cancelling my Monzo accounts.

Just returned from a week away abroad and someone has attempted to use my card for £750 ....... not in the country we visited, somewhere else totally random.

Disappointed that I couldn't speak to anyone regarding the issue. Just had to leave comments. My card has been cancelled and they want to charge me for a replacement card. I'm not bothering.

I got their credit card too which I will pay off on payday then will close my account totally.

It was probably a fluke or a massive coincidence that the only fraud I've ever had against me was after using my Monzo card abroad (thank fully there was nothing in the account as we had a good holiday so they were unsuccessful). But I hated the fact I couldn't speak to anyone about it 😢

I'm so sorry to hear that! That's really put me off. Fraud happens but it's how the banks deal with it that matters, and they've not covered themselves in glory there.

I have to say that when a large sum of money was fraudulently taken from my Monzo account I actually had a very good experience with them

ChickenandaCanofCoke · 26/08/2024 18:19

Can't see what they've done wrong other than using a more efficient online process rather than having a call centre full of people at the other side of the world.

You don't need to talk to anyone about it. That's the point.

I know someone who used their monzo card in the far east, there were a number of fraudulent transactions which were refunded to his account before he even saw that the money was missing

I don't know if online banks are more vulnerable to fraud or the demographic of the customers is more of a factor.

Exactly, I didn't need to explain it to someone and get sympathy or whatever, I just needed my money refunded quickly and efficiently which happened in under 24 hours and after very little effort on my part. No hanging on a phone line for ages or anything

I've used Starling since the start of the year. Wages into my high st bank and transfer any overtime to Starling. Never had any problems with it yet!

Perplexed20 · 26/08/2024 19:28

I have a monzo and starling account.
Son does too. Interestingly son was victim of a scam and monzo returned the money.

Perplexed20 · 26/08/2024 19:31

@DreamW3aver might be the demographic? But I also had my high street bank card cloned.

TimothyIsNotAnArmardillo · 26/08/2024 19:33

I have a Starling and Monzo account alongside my original high street bank.

I prefer the Starling one as I find the interface much better - also when I was abroad the Starling Exchange rate was much better than Monzo.

I have a Starling account in addition to my main current account and I'm a complete convert. No overseas fees on transactions. Really easy to keep tabs on your spending. You can have lots of 'saving spaces' where you can squirrel away funds for specific things. (I currently have a Christmas one and have set up a £25 payment from my main Starling account to my Christmas space every month. I also have a 'rounding up' space, whenever I make a purchase it rounds up to the nearest pound and pops the pennies into a saving space for me.)

Really good customer service too. Smile

I have an account with chase too, they do an instant access savings account paying 5.1% for existing account holders. Chase and starling are both good but i prefer the experience/interface of starling. By all means don't put all your eggs in one basket, but your baskets don't need to be a traditional bank. I tried tide as well but i didn't like them as much.

Traditional banks haven't caught up yet with how to do modern online banking.

They do what the online banks do, but they do it worse. My parents still use a bloody plastic card reader with their nationwide account fgs!

With starling you can deposit cash at the post office and you can deposit cheques by taking a photo of them.

Don't get me started on the 1990s logging on to a Nationwide account, they've clearly spent all their IT development budget on their ad agency. Having some of the best ads on the TV for a while doesn't outweigh rubbish tech imo

Never had any issues with Monzo
