AI tips and tricks for a novice

Good morning all.

I was round a table with some high flying city slickers and they were talking about AI - they recommended the Perpelexity app to me and although I have dabbled with chat gpt, co pilot etc for presentations, reports etc I'd really like to know how people use AI to make their daily life tasks and admin easier.

I still find shouting commands out a bit weird and I'm wary of Alexa and everything that Bezos can hear but I know it's the way forward and plus anything that helps me get more organised and frees up a little time would be very welcome.

Please share how you use AI to make your life easier. Especially around organising tasks and my outlook diary

I use AI in Google Sheets and I'm really happy with the outcome in terms of quality and saving time. We recently started using this GPT extension that integrates directly into Sheets, and it’s made managing everything so much smoother. For example, when planning our marketing campaigns, I can generate lists of tasks instantly, cleaning and standardizing the data in seconds. It also helps me create entire tables with custom content, like taglines and product descriptions. Another great feature is its ability to analyze data with just one click. We use it to turn raw sales numbers into actionable insights, which helps us make decisions. Plus, it’s super handy for generating charts that make our reports more engaging.

Thank you. I don't really use sheets for work or personal use. I'd like to know how people use it to make their life easier.

Don't use generative or assistive AI at all. It's taking jobs away from creative, talented people.

I don't want my life made easier by AI. We risk losing skills if we do so.

goingdownfighting · 27/08/2024 07:50

I don't think we can escape it. Plus anything that makes my life easier, I'll take right now. I work in a pretty manual job, so need to actively keep up with technology.

What tasks do you want to use it for? That has to be your starting point. I use Gemini for writing emails, marketing, blog posts etc I use apps to manage LinkedIn commenting, doing my accounts and bookkeeping. What tasks are you looking to automate?

goingdownfighting · 27/08/2024 10:01

Scheduling, organising my admin- renewals expenses etc. basically a virtual PA. Is this possible?

Like can I get it to do my invoicing or add things to my diary from my email?

There was a recent thread about this:

do you use AI for? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/5075368-what-do-you-use-ai-for

Doggymummar · 27/08/2024 19:49

Have a look at Apron

goingdownfighting · 27/08/2024 21:42

Thanks @TheGirlOnTheLanding.

I'll look at Apron as well @Doggymummar

I also might ask Perplexity what I should use it for.

Thanks @CaveMum

I've just managed to get copilot to upload my children's school term dates into my calendar. It was a faff to give it permissions but it just loaded them straight on from the website.

Mmmmm. What else can't I be arsed to do?

OP posts:

@Doggymummar how do you use it for book keeping and accounts? I'm self employed and would love to automate this. The way I'm paid (I don't raise invoices) means that quickbooks makes it a bit clunky.

I've used ChatGPT for writing blog and social media posts. However I find they work well as a starting point but still need editing. I wouldn't rely on it to write a blog from start to finish.
