Wedding present for couple who have everything?

SneakerShoulders · 25/08/2024 20:30

Going to a wedding at the weekend. Couple are early 40s, been living together for years so have said they've not done a wedding list as they have all the standard house stuff. I still want to get them a present though.

Neither really drinks so nice bottle of wine is out. I don't want to get them vouchers or a charity gift. Any good ideas? Preferably not too ££££ as have had to spend a fortune on travel, hotels, babysitter etc, so was thinking about £30 if that's not super tight?

Why don’t you want to get them vouchers? Any amount is fine and will be gladly received.

Donewiththisshit · 25/08/2024 20:32

I am in a similar situation- it’s so difficult. I’m considering a voucher for a nice restaurant or possibly a hot air balloon ride but it’s a gamble if they would like it!

They've specifically said they dont want any "stuff" so why disobey their wishes.

Something for the garden? A rose or fruit tree perhaps.

Sous chef hamper

Wedding rose bush? Best gift we received when we got married.

Looking for something that isn't 'stuff'. Like wine wouldn't be stuff if they were keen.

I was going to suggest an experience type voicer, but not sure £30 would be enough for 1 person, let alone both.
Do they have a garden with a bird feeder? I have this squirrel proof bird feeder for both seed and another for meal worms. Squirrel and rat proof so far. https://roamwildproducts.co.uk/products/roamwild-pestoff-squirrel-proof-bird-feeder-2-0
Bee cups (especially handy if they have a vegetable patch) https://www.amazon.co.uk/WSBXBB-Bee-Colourful-Sculpture-Butterfly/dp/B0CQJVT93X?th=1
Scratchcards?
If it was £30 each you were spending, what about a yosushi class. OR, the lesson for 1 of them then a mini hamper of sushi rice, nori sheets, black sesame etc. I make fresh sushi often having done this course pre covid. https://yosushi.com/sushi-school
I know you said not a voucher, but I can't see any other option other than putting the cash in an envelope.

A standard olive tree in a nice pot?

Ineffable23 · 25/08/2024 20:44

3 month subscription to letterbox flowers?

A friend's wedding, someone got together loads of family recipes and produced a recipe book for them but you might need to Be family to do that.

A couple of beautiful cloth bound classic books? Maybe too much like "stuff".

Gathering together photos from how you (and your friendship group if applicable) know either/both of the couple?

A bit early but a single Christmas decoration for their tree the years after they are married. Could do a hand made one out of felt and nicely embroidered but that might be too much of a pain for a wedding next weekend.

Did the invite not have a clear instruction, its usually some horseshit like we have all we need, your presence is present enough but if you want to give us some pennies for our honeymoon then that'd be welcome etc...

For thirty quid a bottle of plonk wouldnt get you that much and is unoriginal as they'll end up with bottle after bottle of champers. That plastic bird feeder is bloody hideous as well.

Itsmeamandaberry · 25/08/2024 20:46

Don't buy stuff for the sake of buying some thing. Get them a JL voucher or m&s. Won't comment much on the £30 but that is a bit cheeky. I think you need to spend £50

Ineffable23 · 25/08/2024 20:47

Doing some more thinking:

I tell you what the other thing I would like would be - but this is very person specific - would be something like some really good olive oil and a lovely balsamic vinegar.

Redburnett · 25/08/2024 20:49

Why do you need to give them anything if they already have everything and you are spending to attend the wedding? What about an Oxfam charity gift card or similar if you really want to spend money?

Supermacs · 25/08/2024 20:54

Please dont give them stuff - anything that you give them, unless requested, will be stuff! Vouchers or cash

Zen74 · 25/08/2024 20:54

I was fifty this year and also have everything - in fact I asked for no presents at my party, but got given all sorts of things as I think people don’t like to turn up empty handed.

Favourites were framed photos of happy times from our youth, an enormous rose bush in a beautiful pot, a giant box of Laduree macarons, and tea for two at Claridges.

In a similar vein, if they have a coffee machine, nice coffee beans. Or a coffee bean subscription or something

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/08/2024 20:56

If they like theatre then voucher for National Theatre At Home so they can have a night in with something special. Attach to some popcorn.

Or Fortnums also do a wedding breakfast blend tea. I haven't had it but their other teas are delicious.

Fig tree
Lemon tree
Couples experience
Voucher for a fancy restaurant
Voucher for familiar restaurant to them
Wedding photo album

Oh this sounds good!

I'm not sure if they gave a coffee machine, I don't think so.

There were no instructions for an alternative eg requesting honeymoon cash.

We said the same when we got married in 2020. My mum and MIL gave us money so we bought a flowering cherry tree called Blushing Bride and a lovely pot to put it in. We were also bought tickets to experiences like a Highgrove Gardens visit and Vineyard tours.

Corinthiana · 25/08/2024 20:58

Just give them a card.

outside1inside · 25/08/2024 20:58

Cash in an envelope with a card. Loads of people did that for us and we managed to buy a caravan with it. We didn't ask for anything so it was a brilliant surprise present. We go away every few weeks in it through the summer.

SneakerShoulders · 25/08/2024 20:59

I also think garden stuff could be good, trying to remember what it actually looks like and what might work as I've only been a couple of times and that was a long time ago, as we don't live very close any more.

C1N1C · 25/08/2024 20:59

If they have everything, I'd suggest penicillin.
