Dd10 first experience of death, any wise words?

DCat was a rescue cat which we had from when DD was 3 and she is absolutely besotted with him. DCat is unknown age but has been a massive part of our family for the last 7 years. He has been losing weight and and vets have found a huge abdominal mass and since he is obviously now struggling, we have an appointment in an hour to have him put to sleep. I always get way too attached to pets and DD is obviously very like me and is absolutely distraught. My head says we are doing the kindest thing for DCat and I am trying to answer all DD questions, give her cuddles and reassurance but this is her first experience of any death, and it feels so horrible. Any wise words?

Let her feel sad and let her see that you feel sad too. Talk about why you feel sad and that the sadness will pass. Maybe plan to do something nice to remember DC, plant a shrub or frame a favourite picture of DC/DD so she has a place or an object she can visit/ talk to. Also, don't be surprised if she's forgotten all about it in a day or two!

Give her 10 mins or so to give cat a final stroke but dont let it linger too long. A chance to say goodbye, kind words etc. It's a highly emotional moment right now but it will soon pass.

Thank you so much @AltitudeCheck and @Oochiesmoochies I didn't let her come with me to the vets but she said goodbye to him before we left. We have just buried him in the garden together and lit a candle. She wanted to see him before the burial so I checked him beforehand and he did just look like he was sleeping so I let her. The framed photo is a good idea thank you. And you are right, she has swung from tears and devastation to normal today
