Is there a best time of year to buy a TV?

My TV is on its way out. It's 14 years old and the apps are slowly being unsupported- no Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube etc. I can only have Freesat.

I'd like to buy a new one at some point. Is there a time of year when they are best value? It used to be the Boxing Day sales but I'm not sure that's a thing anymore.

I don't need the newest model so the most recent but one is fine.

Depends what you are looking for but we have bought this this week for our bedroom- bargain!

BaublesBob · 25/08/2024 16:48

Are the Black Friday sales just a gimmick though, with inflated prices in advance?

If you want to use the apps before you replace it, you could always get a fire stick.

BaublesBob · 25/08/2024 16:53

Thanks @Housewife2010 - DH said the same but I'm too lazy for fiddling with multiple remotes and things. I need to point and press. Picture quality could probably do with an upgrade anyway.

This one was £1k in 2009 so it has been good value and served its time.

We have a google TV box (£40-60) that we plug into our TV and it has revolutionised our viewing for minimal cost.

Oochiesmoochies · 25/08/2024 18:40

They're cheap all year round these days. That one for £90 for a 32" posted above is ridiculous value.

You could have also made your existing tv into a Smart TV by adding a £30 Roku stick.

If you have a specific model in mind, check the prices online and then see if Richer Sounds can beat it. I found the TV I liked reduced in Costco, and tried my luck with Richer Sounds as they offer a price match. They came back with an even lower price than Costco's. They usually offer a free extended guarantee as well. I wouldn't buy electronics anywhere else now. And just for clarity, I definitely don't work there.

Buy an Amazon Firestick when they're reduced and TV anytime they're fairly cheap because there hasn't been any new technology recently

Pedallleur · 25/08/2024 19:38

I just went Richer Sounds and bought the one with no extras. £100

Keroppi · 25/08/2024 19:45

Costco or amazon prime day maybe
Check price changes on camelcamelcamel
Keep an eye on Hotukdeals

BaublesBob · 25/08/2024 19:45

Thank you. I didn't think of Richer Sounds. I'm looking for at least 55/60" as it's a large room. The current one is 55" and it doesn't look out of place.

Keep an eye on HUKD for bargains.
