Been watching some cooking videos about soup makers , people putting lentils in straight out of the packet, with raw carrot and potato in big chunks
I thought lentils and pulses had to be soaked ,and how do chunks of potatoes cook in 20 minutes, won't that leave the water starchy if not drained ,but just eaten.
The video , literally tipped in lentils out of a bag ,raw potato and carrots, and it came out as soup.
Is that right ..is it not starchy .
If that is sort of right ,can you recommend a good soup maker for a family ,and some vegan recipes please
Thinking of buying one x

They're basically a pressure cooker with an integrated stick blender. Raw ingredients in, soup comes out. Lentils don't have to be soaked. I got mine about three years ago, after thinking they were ridiculous, and it's now probably one of the most used gadgets in the kitchen. I can't remember the make, sorry. I don't tend to follow recipes, just chuck in whatever I think will work - not had much success with mushrooms, otherwise I do OK.

Thankyou
What about starchy potatoes water
That stuff is vile when I'm making mash and tip it away , does that not ruin the soup

Do tomatoes not need roasting first ,to taste nice in the soup

I can't say I've noticed starchy potato water. It's only thickening the soup anyway, and if it's too thick I add a bit more water/stock.

It would make sense to roast the tomatoes if using them but I prefer tinned tomato soup so it's never come up 😁

I’ve got a Tefal soup maker. I’ve had it years but still think it was a great investment. Blended soup in 30 minutes! Once (before soup maker) I used a stick blender for soup and scalded my arm!
I do cook some things beforehand - roasted vegetable taste amazing in soup. But generally I just throw whatever I can find in with a stock cube and getting delicious soup out!

Our soup maker is used every few days, current obsession is broccoli soup. One potato and one onion roughly chopped, head of broccoli, one veg stock cube, couple of teaspoons of garlic paste from a jar, Italian herbs, salt and a lot of black pepper, fill with water to middle line, delicious, smooth, blended soup 22 minutes later, serve with cheese on top and crusty bread. You don’t need to drain any water out. Roasting tomatoes with garlic and herbs makes for a better soup (experience taught me that), can also set for chunky soup so it still cooks but doesn’t blend if you want minestrone or more of a broth plus bits. Got ours from B&M for £35. Mums is a bit fancier as it has a saute setting so she brings hers over if we fancy french onion soup!
