DP is out at football and can’t answer his phone and I have nobody else to tell so here I am!

3.5yo asd DS just said to me “I love you” I was absolutely stunned, then the tears came! Sat here with a massive grin on my face💙

Smashing 🤗

PolePrince55 · 24/08/2024 15:58

You've raised him right 💙

HelpMeGetThrough · 24/08/2024 15:59

Happened to me a couple of weeks ago with my youngest son who is 17.

I'm dad and he was off to London to watch the cricket for a few days.

Dropped him at the train station and I got a big hug and a "love you dad, see you on Saturday."

Absolutely made my day.

You'll have years of it and the best thing is, they really mean it.

@HelpMeGetThrough that is amazing💙 I tell him every day that I love him with a cuddle and it never seems to register but now I know it must do💙

How lovely! You're clearly a loving mum and he knows it.

50shadedofmagnolia · 24/08/2024 16:16

🥰🥰🥰
My asd sons twenty now but i still remember the first time he told me he loved me x
He made me wait until he was 7 but it was well worth the waiting x

Toddlerteaplease · 24/08/2024 16:18

Aww that's lovely!

Daisydoodog · 24/08/2024 16:25

Awww smiling at everyone else who has experienced the same💙 They are so wonderful.

I have a just turned 8yo too and he is NT so it was a bit of a shock and completely new to me. It is hard but I’m used to it all now and I wouldn’t have him any other way. DS1 is wonderful with him. Aww this his set me off again🤣

He goes back to nursery on the 2nd. He loves it now. A little nervous at what the future will hold for him. The SENCO at nursery have advised a specialist school and have said that I’ll have to make a decision soon between specialist or mainstream. What ever is best for him though of course.

Thanks again for all the lovely comments❤️ He’s currently trying to swing off the curtain pole🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Ohh the absolute most beautiful thread.
I had a patient who was seven at the time, with very complex medical conditions. Totally non-verbal, I was doing an examination and he kept reaching his arm out, I said “ohh what do you want? Can you point it to me?” Me thinking it might be a toy or similar.
He looked me straight in the face and said “my mummy”.
The shock that went through me was indescribable, I was totally dumbfounded, his mother looked at me burst into tears.
so that was it the floodgates opened, yes I was crying.
I hold that memory close to my heart, never give up hope.

Daisydoodog · 24/08/2024 16:30

That's so lovely.

My DH had delayed speech (not sure exactly when he started) but he got his diagnosis of ASD at 4. It amazes me how he was as a child and to see where he is now! I hope your DS continues to surprise you🙂

What wonderful things to happen to the people on this thread who never thought they’d hear their DC say these words! Just goes to show you must never give up hope and never stop encouraging them.

murasaki · 24/08/2024 16:49

It's the most heartwarming and hopeful for the future thread I've read in a while. So happy for you, @Daisydoodog

HamBagelNoCheese · 24/08/2024 16:49

😭 these moments are just so special.

Mine first cuddled me at about 4 years old whilst we were on a deserted beach. I cried like a baby for ages after that!

wayfairer · 24/08/2024 16:49

Congratulations what a beautiful thread.
Such a lovely surprise.🥰😭
So lovely to read these experiences.
Especially as I have a friend with a ds non verbal. There is always hope.
Their always taking things in even if we don't realise it.

Dery · 24/08/2024 16:51

That so lovely, OP! Thanks for sharing it!

IttyBittyTittyCommittee · 24/08/2024 16:53

How lovely for you OP! You’ll always remember that moment! 💝

My DS is almost 40, but I still remember moments like this… and they do still happen (occasionally😉)

We’ve got to the stage where he’s thanking me for all I did when he was little… quote….
“Cos I didn’t know how great it was at the time” 😇

Youll be smiling for days after this! 🌻

Emotionalsupporthamster · 24/08/2024 16:54

Aw this thread is enough to warm the iciest of MN hearts! That’s lovely OP, I bet you wish you could bottle how you’re feeling just now ❤️

Crystallizedring · 24/08/2024 16:55
