Belgrade or Krakow?

I'm planning a surprise trip for my husband, who has expressed a lot of interest in visiting Eastern European(esque) countries. So far we have been to Estonia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Croatia, Czech Rep, and have done Berlin and Trier in Germany, and Vienna in Austria too.

I've narrowed the trip down to Belgrade in Serbia and Krakow in Poland. We will have our 3 young kids including toddler so would like somewhere easy to get to from the airport and easy enough to get around with a buggy.

Any input on which would be the winner?
Thanks!

I don't know Belgrade but Krakow is beautiful, pretty flat and good to walk around seeing the sights. There's a museum underground under the main square which is epic.

Both are worth a visit, both are similarish distances from the airport, both are by watercourses which give an added attractive dimension and both have attractive streets to wander in. Both have lovely food.

Krakow is very much on the tourist map, and was smaller than I imagined. The upside of this is that a lot of the main experiences are accessible on foot. Some beautiful old buildings and a castle, many churches. Auschwitz is a sobering experience but worth it if you’re prepared to travel out of town. Salt mines are also good. I went in the spring and would advise to go outside of the busiest tourist season if you can, as I would imagine it getting very busy high season.

Belgrade was not on the international tourist map when I visited ten years ago. Tourists were mostly domestic and it is larger, more of a working city feel. The fortress is a must see. I remember it being a good city for art and culture, an interesting mix of architecture, lots of concerts, lovely old town and a decent modern art museum.

Hopefully someone will come on here who has travelled them with small kids. Mine are grown up so I’m afraid I’m not much help in that regard. Have a great time.

Both really useful answers, thank you!
