Would you leave a secure perm job for a fixed term contract?

Seen a job I really like the look of, it’s a two year FTC. More money - about 5-8k and would be great experience. I have a child and both me and DH work. We do need the extra money so that would also be a plus. But would I be mad to go for a FTC role? I’ve been in current role years which I’m very comfy in but at the same time I’m bored and no progress opportunities for at least a year.

Personally I would not give up secure perm role for a 2 yr contract with that amount of increase, it isn't enough in my opinion.

Do you know why it's a FTC? Can you ask if there is potential for the role to be made permanent in the future?

I don’t think I would - but understand why some might. Sorry I’m not more helpful

Not sure why it’s FTC. It’s a marketing role.

Not unless it was an amazing job and likely to give me experience that would make me very marketable. Or if your household could survive for a good while without your salary at the end of it.

I think it would depend on their client base at the FTC and if you'd benefit from that job experience. Marketing can be dull with very dull clients and no progression or valued experiences on whatever contract it is.

2 years is better than 1 i spose
have you had a chat and asked them why it is ftc

I just have! It is a risk, but I have done it for a number of reasons:

  1. it is more money/more Holidays;
  2. it is a new role, so lots of opportunities to shape it, and I know the Manager is negotiating for it to be made permanent if its value can be shown;
  3. it is a foot in the door of an industry and organisation I want to be in;
  4. it will give me more/different skills for my CV, and more contacts;
  5. I was becoming bored and stale in my former role; it was too comfortable; there was nowhere to progress to.
My OH is very financially cautious, and even he thought it was the right step.

5 is me at the moment. I’m so bored but very comfortable.
I probably need to find out more on holidays etc. feeling very cautious about it all
