Random info that could save your life (how to escape from a car boot)

billionzAndTrillionz · 23/08/2024 11:12

Just a random bit of useful info from one of my son's PHCE lessons (teacher is ex-police 🙂) ...

If you're ever stuck in the boot of a car in a kidnap situation, there is usually a very visible quick-release handle inside. If not, or if the kidnapper has disabled it, you may be able to pull up the flooring of the boot and find a wire that connects the dashboard to the boot's quick release mechanism - pull it towards the driver and the boot should release.

Otherwise, find the wiring for the brake lights and pull them out, or smash them from the inside using whatever tools you can find - the car is then more likely to be stopped by police.

Thanks for the tip. Thankfully I'm too fat to be kidnapped and put in a boot. So my top tip is eat cake every day and you won't be able to be carried anywhere let alone squished into a boot.

😂😂😂

Theres YouTube Shorts where someone phones (usually 911) and does the “can I order a pizza”. After the operator asks “do you know this is an emergency call…are you in trouble ..are you unsafe to talk” they can get info like address ( delivery) and how many people are there (can I have pizza for four people”

chilling but the operators are on the ball

I always wondered what kind of idiot kidnapper would let you ring for a pizza.

If you get shot, put a tampon in

(in the bullet hole, not your fanny)

If you're alone and you're choking on something (i.e. you need the Heimlich manoeuvre, but there's nobody there to do it), then you can try to do it on yourself. It's quite difficult, but you may be able to use furniture or similar to help you: put your fists into position and kind of drop yourself onto a chair back, or the edge of a table or whatever. I'm explaining it badly, but if you image search "heimlich alone" then you can see what I mean.

I saved myself from choking on lemon sherbert by dropping myself onto my back from standing height when I was a teenager. It flew across the room. I've never eaten a boiled sweet since that day

I dont want to worry any likely kidnappees but I thought boot handles were an American thing, how many UK cars have actual boots nowadays?

I'm sure most of us could have a pretty good go at pushing the parcel shelf out of the way

I'm dead 🤣🤣🤣

Tattoo stops you being trafficked as you would be easily identified - unsure if true though.

being too fat to kidnap is actually a really big advantage.

My teenager told me the tattoo thing this week - I think she’s coming up with good reasons for why she’s going to come home with a tattoo one day!

That's what they were originally designed for, I had great fun explaining this to my BIL when he came round with his daughter because she was having 'women's problems and needs help'. She didn't need help she knew exactly what she was doing but he embarrassed her so I embarrassed him.

Also it's all electrical sources they you should use the back of your hand if there's possible a fault in an emergency, your muscles will contract so NEVER touch it with any part of your body that will 'grab' if your muscles are contracted.

If you carry stuff in your boot, and usually have no one in the back seat of your car, criss cross the seat belts and clip them in. If you are in a crash, there is only a fairly small piece of plastic holding the seat backs up - so at velocity, it is easy for things in the boot to smash through and into you. If you have your seat belts connected like that, they will tighten as the back of the seats start moving forward, and will stop that happening.

Now that is a good tip!

Redglitter · 24/08/2024 01:20

If anyone tries ANY of these tips out in a real emergency situation please come back & let us know how successful they were!!

IncessantNameChanger · 24/08/2024 01:33

The good news is I'm fat. The bad news is I have a Zafira if they want to use my car to kidnap me with a huge boot. More good news is the parcel shelf is like roller blind so I just need to sit up. More bad news is never see police on the road and people don't even check for other cars at roundabouts or junctions to give way ( I almost t boned some who didn't give way today on a roundabout then noticed they also had both wing mirrors folded in).

My useless and thank god never used tip is to cover a sucking knife wound with a carrier bag or credit card for collapsed lung. Not sure how much extra time in reality that gives as I presume you bleed out or fill your lungs with blood.

swimlyn · 24/08/2024 01:39

ResQme is brilliant and cheap. I give them as presents. Amazon ASIN B09BSHNMN8 gets you a multi-pack.

Don’t leave it in the car, put it on your keyring. You then have it as a coach or train passenger, or when you’re in someone else’s vehicle.

There was a kid in America who got kidnapped and the kidnapper let him go because he constantly sang gospel songs, very loudly.

^

This is amazing

k1233 · 24/08/2024 04:03

One I've seen is if your hands are duct taped together in front of you, raise the above your head and swing down hard and fast towards your hips/thighs. The tape will split.

What always gets me with plastic bags over the head is why don't people make a hole with their teeth. Doesn't need to be big to stop the suction. Suck in a flap and give it a good gnaw.

Same with tape over the mouth. Get a bit of a sweat up. Never seen a tape that can survive sweat.

It’s amazing if you can guarantee your kidnapper is going to let you go because you’re annoying, not blow your head off.

People who are drowning are usually silent and look like they’re doing an upright doggy paddle / climbing an invisible ladder. I suppose tell everyone you go swimming with, if you want this info to save your life ;)

This is so true. DD and I nearly drowned in a busy pool as she panicked and was pushing me under to keep herself up.
It was all I could do to catch a breath when I could come up, no way could I have signalled to someone I was in trouble. No one realised what was happening,

distinctpossibility · 24/08/2024 08:55

I've never been kidnapped or fallen into quicksand but once really badly cut my finger on a tin of tuna and asked our neighbour for help (I was home alone with 4 kids under 7) and she said no, because she was waiting in for a parcel. The teatowel soaked in blood didn't spark her into action sadly.

So my top, if specific, tip is don't bother asking Horrible Jayne at Number 14 for any help whatsoever.

I'm quite fat and off key so I think I'll be fine.

My kids and I have been intermittently attending a beach mission this summer so I reckon I'm safe. You do need an accordion for the full effect though. So my top safety tip is always to carry an accordion.

What kind of half arsed kidnapper didn’t have duct tape to put over his mouth? Rookie error.

Know that heart attacks can present very differently for women. My neighbours only initial sign was neck pain and not being able to find a comfortable position to sit or stand in. This was then followed a few hours later by nausea and pins and needles.
