Should I be worried about this mole? Image attached.

I’ve always had this mole on my back. It is quite big, probably 0.5cm wide.

Last week it bled a little and a bit itchy. It is no longer itchy or bleeding but it is more raised than normal. It runs against my bra strap.

Managed to take a photograph and wondering if I should be concerned and get it checked out by a GP?

I would definitely get that checked out by the GP. As it has been itchy and bleeding recently - it may be nothing to worry about but better to get checked.

I would always say get it checked if you have any concerns.

I don’t think it looks untoward - the borders aren’t raggy and the itching and bleeding could be caused by your bra strap rubbing so I’d say it’s probably fine and you don’t need to worry.

But, I’m not a doctor and no one on the internet can tell you from a picture for definite.

Get it checked, it's likely your bra strap caused the irritation but there's no harm having it checked and removed.

I had one just like that, it seemed to be getting bigger and was often itchy. My GP wasn't concerned, she said she sometimes looks at a mole and sends the patient direct to hospital. I was referred as a routine patient to a consultant, the mole was removed and was benign.

I have one a bit like that. I was told by GP it’s a seborrheic keratosis. I have loads since I being pregnant but this one on my back I’ve had since I was a child. It has bled in the past.

If you’re worried I’d go get it checked out, just for peace of mind, but to my untrained eye it looks normal.

Obviouslyathrowaway · 22/08/2024 20:12

Make an appt tomorrow at 8. There really is no reason not to, if it turns out to be nothing well so much the better, off you'll trot home with peace of mind.

It looks like a normal mole to me, but there is no reason not to get it checked.

And then if it changes again, don’t hesitate to get it checked again.

I had a mole that appeared and got bigger. I went to the GP and she said nothing to worry about, seborrheic keratosis, chastised me for not wearing a hat when in the sun and said the NHS won’t do anything about that, just forget it.

6 months later, I just had surgery to have it removed, it’s cancer and I’m waiting on a scan to have a mass in my lymph node checked. Trust your instinct if you think it’s not right. And if it continues to not look right, keep being a squeaky wheel.

Agree with @nonmerci99 , it could well be a sebhorreic keratosis - quite common as you get older, and often appear where straps rub. I have loads at the age of 77, which started to appear at about 40. But get it checked to be sure.

Agree with this. Check with a doctor out of an abundance of caution but it's unlikely to be problematic.

AAAGH just realised it's a semi-zombie thread.

@Myspace2018 no idea, go to the GP and start your own thread. Looks like it might just be a spot but melanomas are not necessarily brown/black so again, out of an abundance of caution, go to the GP.

Alondra · 17/12/2024 11:13

On the photograph alone, it looks like the strap of your bra has irritated it.

Rule of thumb though. ALWAYS make an appointment with your GP if a mole has changed. Not all melanomas look dark with irregular edges if they are in the very early stages. Moles you've had all your life can develop a small crust and be completely benign...... or not.

Your GP should do a biopsy. It'll take no longer than 10 minutes in his own room, and is the only way to 100% diagnose if there is something to be concerned about.

Any changes to skin lesions, whether they are moles, warts, freckles or a common or garden verruca - go and see your GP please.
