Keep finding black rectangles inside my washing machine.

Anyone any idea what it could be. They are maybe 1.5"x2.5". Looks like tape or similar. I'm sure it's not from any clothes. Is it the lining of the washing machine falling apart?

i use a bowl in the sink, and i do not know why? i think its an inherited thing as my mum also used a bowl, and when i got my own house it was important to have a washing up bowl.. its a very good question

I use a bowl in the sink so I can rinse my washing up before I put it in the soapy water and then again to rinse the suds off, without filling up the sink.

Pit all dirty mugs and food bowls on the side, fill with hot water.

Put all used cook ware.on the side, fill with hot water a drop of washing liquid.

Fill washing up bowl with hot water and a little washing up liquid.

Wash plates and cutlery. Put on Drainer.
Then empty the dirty water from food bowls down side of washing up bowl, quick wipe with soapy water. Done.
Repeat with mugs.
Repeating with cookware means you're pouring dirty greasy hot water from baking trays and frying pans etc straight down the sink, not into the washing up water.

....

This is how.my.mum taught me.. that's how my nan taught her and, I have a daughter, I have taught her to get a dishwasher. Life's too fucking short.

As for the OP.

They look like bits of electrical tape?
Does DH do manual job?

I can understand that, i just use a sponge to wipe the suds off.

This punchline made me laugh. Yes definitely dishwasher is the way forward

Sorry op, edited to say yes that does look like your washing machine is falling apart. No idea what it is though because I no nothing about washing machines. Still can’t figure out which bit of the drawer to put what in tbh

Wow, that sounds very long winded, agree with the dishwasher though, but that's just something else that will eventually need to be replaced.

You're overthinking it.

TomatoSandwiches · 22/08/2024 01:19

That wasn't what I was expecting..... definitely looks like something from your machine to me.

Why do people use a bowl in the sink? i have always found this odd.

Because I have a proper old Belfast sink that would take about a fortnight (and a fortune in gas and water) to fill deep enough to wash up in, and if you drop anything it will smash so you are fishing about to find the plug to empty it, whilst avoiding broken crockery or glass.

When washing up bowls became a thing, it was precisely because of Belfast sinks.

You're overthinking it.

I only over thought it once, when i tried to wash an oven tray that was clearly too large to wash in the bowl, removing the bowl made it a lot easier.

Tarkan · 22/08/2024 01:26

A washing up bowl uses less water overall too and if anyone hasn't emptied a cup you can just pour it down the side. We have a 1.5 sink but we prefer the half sink for cutlery drainers so it's still easier to have a bowl. And we have a massive ceramic sink (not Belfast but similar issues in case of smashing too) with a plug that isn't a perfect seal despite being the right plug for the sink so a washing up bowl stops all the water leaking out.

As for OP I don't have any idea. Is it an old machine?

Wahine24 · 22/08/2024 08:38

@OonaStubbs can you email the customer service of whatever brand the machine is? Send them photos , they should know whether its part of the machine, a known fault or something random from someone's pocket
