Very wide toddler shoes - which brand do you buy?

My DD (14 months) has very wide H fitting feet. Clarks are quite frankly pitiful in their selection of nice looking shoes and I'm quite sad that I can't seem to get any cute shoes to match her outfits. Dr martins are very wide but seems incredibly heavy for a toddlers feet.

If you have girls with very wide feet (H+ not slightly wide G) where have you had success with shoes?

Start-rite. Their own website has more width fittings than resellers such as John Lewis. I bought one of their at home measuring gauges as well, so I can buy online. Was fed up of traipsing into town only for no one to stock H width shoes.

I bought hush puppies for my daughter - they come with multiple insoles (or used to)

My little girl has extra wide feet, we get her trainers from Start Rite and wellies from JoJo

The Happy Little Soles website lets you filter by width and has a good range of extra wide. Not cheap, though.

Clarks are terrible for wide feet. I used to get start rite when my DD was younger, H in Clarks is more like G in start rite

GanderingGoose · 21/08/2024 21:34

Just had a look at start rite and they do have some really cute Mary Jane / t bar shoes in. I'll keep an eye out for when they bring their boot stock in for autumn. For start rite fit, did you size up or down from Clarks?

@skkyelark I've just had a quick look and whilst pricey I wouldn't say it was stupid prices. I liked the look of their European style leather sandals so will come back to their website next spring I think.

When DD was a toddler we bought Ecco shoes.

RosesAndHellebores · 21/08/2024 21:55

DD is grown up now but when she was little, we found start rite better albeit with a very limited choice of style and colour. Some of the independent retailers had a wider range but never anything pretty.

Has anyone had any luck with Bobux or ricosta? Their designs are probably the most varied and pleasant and they seem to have deep insteps

My nephew's both wore bobux I don't recall them being particularly wide though.

dontbenastyhaveapasty · 21/08/2024 23:42

Bobux’s soft sole toddler / up to age 3ish shoes were loved by my son with chunky wide feet - but sadly, I’ve found the more robust “bigger child” shoes to be far, far too narrow for him. He’s now 4 and I got his new school shoes from Start-rite - they are perfect for his v wide feet.

dontbenastyhaveapasty · 21/08/2024 23:43

I also recommend Happy Little Soles as a company to buy from - I’ve found them really helpful, delivery is quick, and returns no problem.

Barefoot shoes are wider

Be greater do some bare foot friend kids shoes that actually look nice and normal. The toe box is foot shaped so really wide.

Yes my son has wide feet and his school shoes are ricosta. Great shoes. We have had several pairs

CavalierApproach · 22/08/2024 00:04

Geox was our brand my dc were toddlers. Nothing else had a hope of fitting!

PandaG · 22/08/2024 00:13

Ricosta, occasionally Geix or Start rite from an independent shoe shop, at £50+ a time, and DC are now in their 20s! Both had such wide, deep feet... Shoe fitter was excellent, would never sell anything that wasn't 100% right, would tell you which exact design of shoe to ask for elsewhere if she couldn't help. Had lots of second hand clothes, but prioritised new fitted shoes. If had been more standard sizes may have bought cheaper but we could just about afford the expensive fitted school shoes.

PandaG · 22/08/2024 00:18

Beauty of Ricosta boots - were waterproof lined, and could be fitted a bit bigger than shoes so lasted longer.

flyinghen · 22/08/2024 00:32

Start rite wouldn't go on my kids feet. She has little breeze blocks for feet bless her with super high instep too.

We managed to get a pair of Geox "trainers" they are more like leather boots in reality. They have a high instep and removable sole so gives her more room.

skkyelark · 22/08/2024 09:17

Bobux are generally medium-fitting, although it will depend some on where/how DD's feet are wide – broad across the toes might be okay, as they do have a fairly wide toe box.

A fair number of Ricosta's designs are brilliantly adjustable – you can really pull the straps in or loosen them off a lot and the shoe still looks good and works well. If she's got a high instep, they might well work. If her foot is mostly wide side to side, I'm less sure.

Geox is another common choice for wide feet.

Is there an independent shoe shop anywhere near you? A lot will stock Ricosta, Geox, and sometimes Bobux. Otherwise, Happy Little Soles are usually happy to discuss what shoes might suit a particular pair of feet. (And I'd agree that they're not unreasonably expensive for what they sell.)

Stomperz do H width canvas trainers

flyinghen · 13/05/2025 20:00

Geox Biglia are the only shoe that will fit my extra wide high instep daughter!
