Anxiety help please

I have suffered with moderate anxiety for around 2.5 years now. I have tried kalms, breathing techniques, the 3-3-3 exercise all to no avail. I feel like it's at a point where I need medication to help but I would rather avoid this as the side effects of some are not pleasant. Can anyone offer any advice? There is a certain trigger for my anxiety most of the time but it's out of my hands and I can't control the reason my anxiety starts. It's not daily but when I do get it it's awful and debilitating. I'm worried my child is picking up on my anxiety. Thank you for reading.

There are natural remedies. Try the theanine and GABA.
I have always found exercise helpful. Meditation seems to help some people, as does guided relaxation.
If all else fails, there's no shame in going to your doctor and using medication. Why suffer if you don't have to?

Hello! I also suffer with anxiety which was absolutely horrendous when I was pregnant. I’ve been on and off meds but take 25mg of sertraline daily. Still get anxiety but it’s more manageable now. I also went through Bupa and have weekly WhatsApp calls with a lovely therapist. Like you I worried my dd was picking up on it. She’s 11 now and her having to reassure me really made me take stock of it all!

Thanks both, it's not shame it's the worry about side effects and me wanting to give it one more try alone! Did you go private for the Setraline prescription or was that through Bupa? I had thought of going private for a more thorough/continous service instead of getting a different GP each time. Not sure on the cost involved though.

I got sertraline through my gp. I first went on it when I was pregnant and was so anxious I couldn’t function. I’ve been on and off it through the years though and always had nhs prescription

I started Sertraline about 4 weeks ago.

I too was so worried about taking it. I had it a few weeks before I started, but I realised my daughter needed a much better version of me than I was giving her.

It has been really good. It affected my sleep for about 2 weeks, and I sometimes feel a little bit sick, but other than that it has really, really helped. The overwhelm has gone and my mind is much calmer. I still get a little anxious, but I can do breathing etc to get myself through it.

Your GP will be on hand to answer any questions if you have concerns when you start taking it.

I tried a natural remedy first, but it was like a caffeine injection.

Caffeine, alcohol, too much sugar and artificial sweetners all trigger my anxiety. If you're having any of these, it might be worth cutting them out for a while.
