Good IBS friendly recipes

DH has borderline IBS....

He's looking at food to at and cook and I'm wondering if anyone has some good tasty recipes so that my food doesn't suddenly go a bit bland...

Even among bland different people can have different triggers. Does DH know what sets him off?

BigDahliaFan · 21/08/2024 09:36

No he's right at the beginning of all this. It may not even be IBS...

He knows alcohol isn't his friend but apart from that we are a bit stumped.

He's also being a grumpy negative git about it and concentrating on what he can't eat..

Every person is different. He needs to experiment and find what foods work for him and go from there.

I don’t have IBS, but I do have another GI condition and the known ‘trigger’ foods are largely fine for me, but then completely unexpected foods cause issues.

With any GI condition, the biggest triggers are often stress related too.

Yes stress...he says the condition is making him stressed, I reckon it's the other way round..

Anyway what does he do? Start cutting foods out and see what is better? I want him to go and see someone privately to talk him through it but he's being obstinate.

My DH has IBS. Foods that trigger his condition are:

Peanuts
Alcohol
Brocolli
Onions
Spicy food
Fruit especially apples and oranges

To be honest he doesn't stick to the rules so spends a lot of time in the toilet.

My DH has colitis and it’s really hard to find out which foods give him a flare up as it could be built up over a period of time. He doesn’t eat a lot of red meat, preferring chicken and fish, he doesn’t have a lot of fried food. I do buy a variety of fruit and vegetables as he seems better just having a little of a lot of things. Alcohol seems to be ok when he’s not in a flare up. He has an excellent NHS Gastroenteritis team, so if he hasn’t been referred yet I would ask your GP to do so.
