4 year old biting brother

Just after a bit of advice . I have a 4 year old boy and 5 month old baby boy .
my eldest seemed to take on the role of big brother very well but I have noticed more recently he seems to be a little more rough with the baby . I recently left them alone in living room for no more than 10 seconds (whilst I went to grab the baby a dummy) I then heard the baby scream I went back in and asked my son what had happened and he admitted he had bit the baby’s finger I asked him why he bit him and he just said I don’t know .4(yo) Is not a bad child and I do not believe he wanted to hurt his brother but I think he’s just got the impulse to maybe see what will happen if he does something he knows he really shouldn’t . I’ve had people tell me it’s probably jealousy but I really don’t believe that it is because of how good he can be with the baby most of the time
just after any advice on how to handle this to hopefully stop this from happening again and also make sure I can respond better as a parent as my first reaction is to yell at him for it , which I know probably doesn’t help the situation.

They're young and they often do it just to see what the reaction will be

If I bite his finger what will he do

Oh he'll scream

Obviously you yelling at him is not on

Just say don't do that again it hurts

Yes , I totally get that but It’s sometimes hard to get through to him because he thinks it’s all a joke . I’m just trying to find a way to get him to understand why it’s not okay
