How to choose a holiday?!

Our DC have never been abroad and we haven’t since our honeymoon 15 years ago. We’ve been saving so that we can have a holiday abroad next year. How do you narrow it down?! We’ve saved so hard and now it feels like loads of pressure! Where’s best to look for holidays? How do you choose when there is so much choice?
I know it sounds silly but I’m stupidly feeling overwhelmed as it’s a lot of money for us and I don’t want to waste it!

Work out your budget
what do want - fly and flop, a little bit of culture, good food, city break, theme parks?
when can you travel?
what kind of weather?
how old are the DCs?

Exactly this, what type of holiday do you all want?

I think the ages of your DC is an important consideration as will determine accommodation options.

We dont usually relax by the pool and would rather be out doing things. Children are 9 and 10. Would like to have access to a pool because Dc would love this!

So some where sunny with a pool.
School holiday time?
What kind of things to you want to do?
Budget?

Also, how much do you want to do and do you want guaranteed 'good weather'? If you are looking at school hols in the summer, a lot of sunny places will be very hot for children (well, not just children) not used to it, so if you want a holiday when you are out and about all the time, you may have to compromise.

Would like sunshine but I’m also aware that my children aren’t used to heat!
we were thinking about the Netherlands. DH wants to go to Spain but the heat worries me a bit!

Billund?

ffsgloria · 20/08/2024 20:52

We had a great holiday to Billund when kids were similar age, there's a brilliant waterpark, the original legoland, and the LegoHouse.

How about ehrocamp or key camp in Brittany? Or a cheaper centre parks in Belgium plus Bruges and Brussels?

Heatherbell1978 · 21/08/2024 06:40

You need to start with your budget as that will dictate what you can do. We tend to do a mix of Eurocamp holidays which are great for a range of budgets and have loads of options across Europe, or we use good old Jet2 for a package holiday. If you go into the Jet2 app you can filter so once you've put in your max price, your airport etc you can start seeing what the options are for a package holiday.
