NHS hearing aids- how do I know if I qualify?

My ears have been an intermittent issue since I was a child and I recently had a hearing test at the hospital- I’ve been having balance issues so had a range of investigations.
The hearing test was done first and I was told that I had bilateral moderate sensorineural hearing loss which is worse on one side.
I had further tests and given some physio advice to help my balance but no more was mentioned about the hearing loss.
I assumed that a hearing aid would be offered but it wasn’t mentioned and I didn’t think to ask at the time. Now that the tests are complete, do I need to go back to my GP? It’s recorded on my NHS app but the hospital has discharged me.
DP has pointed out that just because they didn’t offer it, it doesn’t mean it’s not needed. I can’t afford to pay for them privately.
I think he’s fed up with repeating things…

Sensorineural hearing impairment is either damage tot he hair cells in the inner ear or to the nerve.

If it is the first then a hearing aid can help but I think the options are more limited for the latter (but it is a long time since I studied this).

I think you might as well go back to your GP and ask about hearing aids.

My daughter had bilateral moderate sensorineural hearing loss diagnosed at 4 weeks old, and hearing aids fitted at 6 weeks.
hopefully you are on the list for the audiology department to follow up, but no harm in contacting them. The GP will only refer you back.

That's what I have and I have 2 NHS hearing aids. The GP will refer you to audiology for them.

Thank you all. Your responses are very helpful! I shall definitely go back to my GP when I get back from my holiday.

I guess that the hospital will know which it is @sashh, I don’t recall them saying so.

How do you find them @nailsathome ?

I appreciate that your DD won’t remember life without them @Jammymare, it’s brilliant that it was picked up so early.
