How often do you buy clothes

I'm a terrible shopaholic and I spend more than a thousand pounds a month of clothes for myself, dh and our two children, mostly for myself and dc but I would like to stop!

I just can't seem to control myself when it comes buying clothes and right now I'm obsessed with new pyjamas for everyone.

I can absolutely love an item of clothing but as soon as I wear and wash it I seem to hate it then, I donate or give away everything we don't wear anymore and unless it's old underwear it goes in the bin. Tops and trousers with holes in it goes to our local seamstress who makes blankets out of old fabric, so nothing is being wasted, I just really feel the need to stop buying clothes! Help

I've got nothing new this year for myself. Dh got some new shirts for holiday and DS had a few new outfits as he had another growth spurt.

I don't understand why you're only wearing things once then giving them away? You are literally throwing money away? Are you in debt or is this waste affordable?

Maybe try putting things in an online basket and not checking out? Or adding them to a wishlist? Or only buying clothes from shops in person using cash so you can physically see the money disappearing.

And the reason I haven't bought anything this year,is because I am trying a 12 month ban on non essential clothes as I had too many. I sold what I could and scaled back my wardrobe and it's ongoing. If it's not worn in 1 year, it goes.

Anything I buy for me now, is to replace something that's beyond repair.

I am wearing them more than once it's just that I get sick of it after one wear, that 12 month ban on non essential buying seems like a good idea!

I desperately needed it so I do get where your coming from. I also found if I stopped storing my card details online that helped as I have to enter my details before the purchase is completed and it gives a bit of time to decide if I want it. Helps as well if my purse is downstairs and I'm upstairs as I can't be bothered to go and fetch it 😂

I don't think my answer will be helpful in that my family are on the opposite end of the spectrum and might buy a couple of items each a year, so say 2/3. This year I have bought a new summer dress and a t- shirt.

This is just who we are. It isn't to save money because we have plenty of money to spend should we wish to, but I just can't be bothered with the whole process of continually finding new clothes because I see it as an overwhelming chore rather than a pleasurable thing to do.

I understand it isn't easy to change your mindset. I find it really difficult to actively buy anything, and sometimes set myself a goal of finding something to buy, but it isn't easy and I usually fail to do so.

Maybe try and set a goal to limit your items to a set number per month.

I don't think self-help is going to cut it here. This level of spending is insanity and to me it sounds like you might have a psychological compulsive disorder, especially if you're fixating on certain things e.g. pyjamas. I think you need to find a therapist.

Where do you put all this stuff?!

I tend to buy seasonally for new things a couple of times a year. I’ll often go into my apps (H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, Next, ASOS mainly) and ‘save’ or favourite items for myself and DC. Then when the weather starts to turn and we need warmer or cooler clothes I’ll go and buy a few bits for us all.

Personally I don't spend much as I'm on a low income
I look for my favourite brands on vinted
This year I have bought one blouse and 2 new T shirts in the sales.
Firstly I would delete card details stored online as it gives you time to think or add to basket but not checkout.
Make a list of what you need
Look on vinted first for DC clothes.
An impulse to spend is different though and I suggest talking with a counsellor.
If you go to physical shop, leave cards at home and use cash
