Car seat for petite 4.5 year old

I wrote a huge thread & accidentally deleted it so I am going to shorten it & hope I still get some help

4 year old DD is very petite (approx 96cm / 13kg), always been in a RF seat up until 6ish weeks ago when it stopped clicking into RF, we were also involved in a car accident recently so are replacing her seat.
I'm a huge over thinker & cannot decide on a new one for her, currently looking at Maxi Cosi Pro / Plus and Britax Advansafix however you can only use the harness up to 105cm so max a year left harnessed (and as she's so petite I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel her being in a seat belt) or an Axkid One 2 but I worry she won't be as keen going back to RF now plus at roughly double the price it's expensive!

Any help / advise would be gratefully received 🙂

I've just noticed I've said 4 year old & 4.5 year old 🤦🏽‍♀️ she was 4 at the end of May so between 4 and 4.5

I guess it depends on whether you plan to keep her rear facing much longer? And how long her legs are.. I know in theory they can just sort of fold their legs in but in reality most children look a bit scrunched up after the age of three or so.
Besafe make excellent extended rear facing ones and the Axkid Movekid goes up to 125cm with harness I think... but that's only any use if she will agree to stay rear facing that long.
We've just switched my dgs (3.5) round as he started to get car sick rear facing, even though he's super short ( 1st centile if we are generous!) and would fit that way round for a long time yet. He's much happier forward facing so reluctantly we have accepted that .

@Sonolanona I haven't checked her leg length but I'll do that in the morning. I do think she has enjoyed being able to see and be more involved FF but I then worry that I'm turning to FF for the wrong reasons and should continue with RF (did I say I overthink things? 😂)
What FF seat have you gone for?
I haven't looked at the Besafe, I'll see what they have. Thank you

Get an Axkid MiniKid, brilliant Swedish plus tested ERF seats, that will last until she doesn’t need ERF anymore. My 1 and 3 years olds who are below and above your daughters height both fit in them happily, and the headrest is auto adjusting to get the right fit. It really is much safer to keep her rear facing as long as possible, at least until age 5 when the neck bones fuse but as she’s small she could easily last in it till 7-8 or longer. Rear facing never stops being safest.

Britax Max Safe Pros are currently on offer in loads of places - reduced from £400 to £200 and they go up to 125cm or 36kg so would last you for ages. They are RF only. I've just bought one for DD1 so hoping she gets on with it!

DGS is in an Axkid (can't rem which model) now that is forward facing but swivels as I have a knackered back and he's nearly 15kg (he's like a little rugby player..short and stocky with a big head!)
In my DD's car he has a Joie 360 and still has lots of room to grow but we just couldn't keep him rear facing in it as he kept throwing up! He's fine now he's forward, even though it's not ideal safety wise.

PoopedAndScooped · 18/08/2024 00:22

She does not have to rear face at 4 years old

After an accident the car seat suppose to get changed straight away
You need to get the new car seat before she gets in the car again

Thank you all, I'll have a look at the others seats suggested.
We are borrowing the car seat her Grandparents have for her so although there isn't a huge rush it is a pain having to keep swapping it over.

Axkid move is a good rf seat lots of room especially if she is tiny
can’t be used ff though but at her weight she can’t use the seatbelt anyway and rf is safer than using the harness ff if you can get her to turn back round

you will probably find she would have lots of room in joie stages/everystage if you wanted one you could turn round in the future

if you get the old version they go up to 18kg rf but no height limit
the new versions are 22kg rf but 105cm I think it was so use your red book to see

I think it’s graco use the same seat she’ll just different fabric so these are cheaper
