Barefoot shoes, are they any good?

I'm considering trying them when I recover from an avulsion fracture. Does anyone wear them and are they worth it

I wear Vivobarefoot shoes most of the time. I think they are great for foot health and posture. I try to find them in the sale or on eBay as they are expensive. I prefer classic styles and sometimes get annoyed with the weird colour ways and styling. Otherwise totally recommend.

@dotdotdotdash those are the ones I've been looking at. Thanks

They look a bit odd, but husband swears by them. We also have our toddler in barefoot designs as it's great for growing feet.

If you wanted to try a more budget friendly option before going all out on vivos, try hobibear :)

I had two avulsion fractures and was clearly told to wear shoes with good strong arch support.

It is tempting to think that something soft and floppy is the way to go - it isn't.

Lemonade2011 · 17/08/2024 20:52

My sister and mum wear them, but no good for my flat feet as there’s no support so I just make sure my shoes have a wide toe box, I have arch supports in anyway

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 17/08/2024 21:00

Yes, I've been wearing them for years. My toes aren't so bunched up as they used to be and the bunion that was starting has gone. I can wear them all day without a problem. I know it goes against received wisdom but I don't think feet need support - plenty of people in other countries seem to get by with just flipflops. Ideally we should all be barefoot but it's good to have a bit of a sole to protect against sharp stones and have a bit of grip. I'm generalising a lot of course but certainly they suit me. I have grey ones and pink ones and black boots for winter, all from Vivobarefoot.

If you have hobbit feet maybe. Just follow on of the many barefoot women on facebook if you're interested.

I've worn Vivobearfoot for a month now. They needed breaking in on the corner of the toe crease but they are a game changer. I'm hyper mobile and haven't had a single collapsed ankle in a month.

Swollenandgrouchy · 17/08/2024 21:14

I have painful arthritic bunions and barefoot shoes are the opposite of what I need. I need a wide toe box, yes, but I need string firm arch support and a cushioned area around the ball of my foot.

Scampuss · 17/08/2024 21:44

I've worn bf shoes exclusively for about 5 years now, hypermobile, was having lots of pain and that's all gone, walked into things and tripped over stuff (and nothing!) all the time and that happens rarely now. My feet are stronger and I have an arch now. They're not for everybody but can be transformative for many of us.

Wahine24 · 18/08/2024 01:32

I'm hyper mobile so interested in this, I did try hobibear ones but they were huge in every direct and smelt like burnt plastic! Lots of people on Instagram but you never know if it money led so ppl just say yeah they are great!

Some Camper shoes are quite good for toe box and not too deep a sole - the peu and right ranges, if you want something other than Vivobarefoot. There's a great review site called Anya's Barefoot Shoes or something if you want to look for more normal appearing styles.

If you want support but a decent toe box- Birkenstocks have worked for me when I've buggered up my foot.
