Anyone trying/tried special diet/avoiding certain foods for Rheumatism/Arthritis?

I always understood you should avoid the deadly nightshade family (tomatoes/peppers/aubergine etc) but also heard you should avoid certain grains.

Unfortunately on the web it is all American "specialists" who tell you to watch a video and then I have no doubt will encourage you to spend money on a "wonder drug".

I did manage to get a list of food that was ok and they were umming and ahhing about deadly nightshade foods. One the one hand they were but they contain X which is bad! Also read somewhere that grains, or certain ones are bad but it never clarified which! Doing my head in a bit. Shame that I love tomatoes, peppers and potatoes but if I thought it would help my pain I would give them up!

Anyone?

Hi OP
I have RA too and the only thing I avoid as much as possible is sugar

I eat tomatoes like they're going out of fashion with no ill effects
But sugar causes the pains

Doctor told DH that sugar is an inflammatory, so DH is trying to cut down as well

@Cursieputed
Thanks very much for your reply!

I guess that is the answer then. Sugar is bad, bad, bad
(said she eating chocolate!!!).

I agree about sugar, and any other inflammatories although I could still do better. Giving up sugar and avoiding processed meat and upfs helped a little with my weight as well, so it could be a combination of improved diet and weightloss. I know vit d is important, but that’s about the limit of my knowledge

Personally, I just google arthritis uk and avoid any sites not in uk.

I haven't eaten meat since was 21. I also avoided fish but recently thought it might help. I dunno. But anyway, I agree about sugar. Weirdly it makes my chin itch!
