Waiting for an ambulance

I don’t know what I want from this but my poor DD is suffering from some sort of stomach bug, initially I thought it was food poisoning but she was recently on holiday with a friend, they swam in a river so now we suspect that is the cause.
Her friend was poorly but has recovered quickly, my DD seemed to perk up and is no longer vomiting but she passed blood and clots during a bowel movement. It doesn’t help it was watery and she is on her period but she made sure to check properly and there was more blood each time.
She was ghostly white and kept dozing off and very weak, she is back in bed and doing a bit better bit if she stands up she goes white again.
She can’t sit up which is why we aren’t able to take her ourselves, the hospital is an hour away from us. It’s been 45 mins so hopefully they’ll arrive soon.

Can't you get a taxi?

MoosakaWithFries · 17/08/2024 00:42

Can you get her there yourself?

A would imagine a call of this nature wouldn't be a high priority and around these parts you'd be lucky to have them arrive before breakfast.

cannynotsay · 17/08/2024 00:42

Sorry to sound round but it doesn't seem like she need immediate medical care, like she's not a trauma, I think you may be waiting a while for an ambulance

Can you two not carry her to the car and grab a wheelchair as soon as you get to the hospital?

I'm not sure what area you're in, but here (London) on a Friday night, you could literally be waiting 4 or 5 hours, if not more.

cannynotsay · 17/08/2024 00:42

I also hope she's ok, sending hugs

ThelmaDinkley · 17/08/2024 00:45

Hope she’s ok OP. You’re doing right thing getting her seen.

PrincessSakura · 17/08/2024 01:11

She isn’t able to sit up as she starts heaving and goes very dizzy/faint so 111 ordered an ambulance for her. She is only 13. 999 phoned me and have made it an urgent request due to her age, it should be here in 30 mins as long as they don’t need to see anyone for lifesaving reasons. She can barely get out of bed at the moment, I just want her to be ok.

I hope the ambulance comes soon and I hope DD makes a speedy recovery. Do you have any ice lollies (not dark colours), it may help keep her a little bit hydrated. A 5ml syringe/spoon of water every 5 minutes is a really good way to keep hydrated as well.

Deebee90 · 17/08/2024 01:22

I hope she’s ok. Sounds like she’s picked up a nasty bug from the water if her friend was the same. Some people can get hit more than normal. I’ve had a few nasty bugs that ended up with passing blood with stools. The hospital will sort her out .

nocoolnamesleft · 17/08/2024 01:27

There was another thread on here in the last few days about an older teen with nasty d&v after swimming in a river. Water quality is pretty awful in so many rivers. I'd be worried, with the bloody diarrhoea, that it might be an enterotoxin releasing E coli, so she'll definitely need a stool sample sending. In the meantime, agree with the 5ml every 5 minutes suggestion.

We are at the hospital, paramedics were fab with her. She has had more observations done and now waiting for a Dr to see her. Poor thing threw up again a few times and it was a horrible green colour. She definitely has a nasty bug :( she is currently going up and down with feeling better and then feeling rotten again.

Glad she is being seen, but sorry she is feeling so rotten in the meantime, @PrincessSakura. There are some nasty bugs about at the moment - DH has been up for a few hours with D&V, which nursery also said was doing the rounds this week.

Hope she's feeling better soon and you can all get some rest!

Thevelvelletes · 17/08/2024 05:04

She's in the right place and hopefully with test results they can take the guess work out about what's wrong.
Hopefully she's better soon.

She sounds like she needs immediate care to me! She is probably very hypotensive and potentially quite sick

Glad you're there and she's being seen. You did absolutely the right thing and sending you all positive wishes, fingers crossed she'll be on the mend soon xxx

Thank you everyone, I was so worried about her. We got home at 6am. She has been given some medication and if no better in a couple of days we are to go straight back up so fingers crossed it’s just a 24/48 hour thing, it’s just hit her quite hard :(
