Quite a bit of blood was in it when squashed …
Not the best picture, sorry.

Think it might be a tick.

NameChangedToDisguiseEmbarrassment · 16/08/2024 20:19

That looks like a bed bug. About the size of an apple pip?

Looks like a tick! Were you outside when you got bit? They are usually In long grass / forests

ADHDHDHDHD · 16/08/2024 20:39

Tick I reckon. Keep an eye on the bite mark. If it turns into a bullseye rash then to go the doctor

Allthehorsesintheworld · 16/08/2024 20:42

A tick would look like a beige sac with very tiny feelers at one end. If you squish them they pop and the sac is filled with the blood it’s sucked. Before they latch on they look like tiny spiders but not the right number of legs.
If it still had its body distinguishable when you squashed it my guess is a bed bug.

Remmy123 · 16/08/2024 20:43

I got bitten terribly by bed bugs but I never saw one so not sure it's a bed bug

mechanicalpencil · 16/08/2024 20:43

Had just returned from a walk on a hill. Got back home and noticed it on my arm, about the size of a sesame seed.
There’s no rash, itching, pain or even a bite mark that I can see now.

Likely a tick. If it came off whole then you'll be fine.

For sure a tick in this circumstance

mechanicalpencil · 16/08/2024 21:03

Thanks everyone.
Should I be concerned? It was full of blood as I say but no sign of a rash etc or even now any sign of a bite. I’ m not even sure it did bite now, saw it, squashed it and that was that. Could it be the blood from a previous host perhaps?

The rash can come later. And you can catch Lyme without ever getting a rash and also be aware the rash is not necessarily a 'bulls eye'. If you get a rash or feel unwell in the next couple of weeks, get yourself of the the GP. But don't panic. Not all ticks have Lyme.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 16/08/2024 21:32

The blood is probably yours. If it had been old partially digested blood it would have been brown.

SplishSplashSploshes · 16/08/2024 21:36

They take 24 to 48 hours to transfer Lyme so if you picked it up today then you'll be fine. But if you had it longer then you'll need to keep an eye out for symptoms.

But not all ticks carry the disease

Hi please could you elaborate on what you mean by the bullseye rash?
I recently had a two/three of these but swear they were from mosquito bites as I saw one bite me and also felt at least one bite me too. A bullseye is a perfect description of what I experienced. Finally turning into bruising.
Perhaps bay allergic reactions can exhibit the bullseye like markings?

Quick way to check is count the legs - bedbugs are insects and have 6. Ticks are arachnids and have 8.

The bulls eye is a very strong indicator of Lyme, but please everyone, be aware that it is very common for a Lyme rash to NOT have the bulls eye pattern. Just a reddish splodge with no bulls eye is very common. Too often, people, including medical professionals, are not aware of this.

abracadabra1980 · 27/08/2024 09:40

This is my leg with what looks like a similar ‘bullseye’ to your picture. It was most definitely a mosquito bite that caused it. My mum reacts the same. Was bitten again a few weeks later and saw the blighter bite me-but no reaction like this. I’m permanently exhausted but have not been bitten by a tick! Interesting thread though.

Seeline · 27/08/2024 09:56

@abracadabra1980 I react similarly to mosquito bites.
I think the bullseye tick reaction is different in that it has the white ring in the middle and then another red ring.

TooTired2024 · 27/08/2024 10:04

Looks more like a bedbug to me, it doesn't look like it has the right mouthparts for a tick. The younger ones are smaller than watermelon pip size. Also, (as an aside) some ticks have 6 legs, depending on species and stage of lifecycle.
