I woke up half an hour ago stood up and immediately fell sideways into the wall. It feels like my who body wants to be pulled right. I feel pretty off balance and dizzy. Otherwise ok apart from a little worried now!

what the heck has happened? Is this an ear problem? Should i call 111 ?any ideas?

Sounds like a bit of vertigo. See how you do if you move around carefully. If you feel sick or you have no balance then go back to bed.

Could be something like a middle ear infection or you could have caused it turning over in bed

CalicoPusscat · 16/08/2024 05:19

I would have thought it was sleep drowsiness! Sit down and take some deep breaths, if it perseveres could possibly be something like vertigo.

FloofPaws · 16/08/2024 05:44

I'd give yourself a few minutes to wake properly, have some water and see how you feel. If you feel the same then phone 111 for advice. Not sure how old you are but I found perimenopause started some dizziness spells. Good luck

That happened me a few days before I had a TIA.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 16/08/2024 06:16

Sounds like when I had my first attack of Vertigo

ThePoshUns · 16/08/2024 06:18

Vertigo?
Dead leg?
Low blood pressure .
I have fainted many times from getting out of bed too quickly

ChangeTheProphecy · 16/08/2024 06:35

Sounds like vertigo. It should get better in a few hours but you’re best just lying down until it does. I’ve heard anti histamine or travel sickness pills can help.

Sadsadworld · 16/08/2024 06:39

Could be vertigo but could also be TIA or stroke, are you weaker on one side? I think getting medical advice quickly is a good idea.

CalicoPusscat · 16/08/2024 06:40

Is it getting better?

WolfFoxHare · 16/08/2024 06:43

Could be BPPV. Is it worse if you tilt your head back or roll over?

Lacdulancelot · 16/08/2024 06:45

If you feel drunk and sick it’s probably labyrinthitis.
When I get it I always wake with it and have to stay in bed for a morning.
A colleague of mine once developed labyrinthitis at work and her dh had to fetch her, she crawled along the corridor to the door.

WhatMe123 · 16/08/2024 06:45

Could be vertigo

loudbatperson · 16/08/2024 06:49

It sounds like vertigo to me as well. With my first attack I was similar to you, stumbling around like I was drunk. I also vomited a lot.

Sitting back slightly with my head really still helped a little. Lying down seemed worse.

The doctor prescribed some medication which helped a lot, but I warn you it also knocked me out. It was strong stuff.

It took several days to get over my first attack. I have had a few since which have luckily been shorter.

Labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis

I would say this 90%

I've had it a couple of times, often it follows a cold or similar. Both times I felt fine, stood up and face planted. Dizzy for a couple of days, a bit nauseous, and headachey too from memory. It's an infection of the inner ear and there's meds to help.

I say 90% as it could also be menieres which is kind of a longer term version.

piscofrisco · 16/08/2024 07:36

Labrynthitus. This happened to me and I was off for about 4 months before my balance came back. I sometimes get recurrences now, usually when I've had a cold.
See the gp if it goes on longer than a few days as they should do a scan to rule out anything more sinister, and will give you anti nausea tablets if the dizziness is causing that.

Other than that what worked for me was trying to walk around a bit to retrain my balance. But by mid afternoon my head would feel so heavy that rest was all
There was for it . Steams seemed to help me a bit though not sure if that was placebo as it's an inner ear thing and in my head clearing the tubes would help.

It's horrible and I sympathise with you. But light at the end of the tunnel, it does go away eventually

Bestyearever2024 · 16/08/2024 07:49

Do you also feel sick?

Dad had labrynthitis and couldn't walk , had to crawl, and was being sick.

We rang 111, Doc arrived (2013, Dad was 82) gave him an anti sickness jab and told him to stay in bed as much as possible

He was much better after around 3 weeks
