Why are kids toys so loud?!

My son is currently playing with toy steering wheel I bought him in B&M last week. He loves it and it was a 2 for £20 offer so inexpensive but my god, it’s soooo bloody loud! There’s no volume switch, it’s either just on or off.
My MIL insists I should take the batteries out of basically any toy that makes any kind of noise but the sounds are kind of the point so I don’t want to make them silent, I just don’t understand why it has to be quite SO loud. I did try it in the shop but in that atmosphere it didn’t seem so bad.

I just needed a little vent as I already have a headache and attempting to remove this toy from his possession will just create its own unholy racket.

If the manufacturer included a volume control then the toy would cost a lot, lot more than what it did. So many toys are cheap crap so it’s trial and error to identify the good stuff with longevity whilst still be entertaining.

Sometimes I’ve wondered if some toy manufacturers are actually trying to wind parents up, some toys are so loud and annoying (vtech puppy I’m thinking of you!) I don’t buy toys that make a big noise anymore—also tend to avoid toys that need batteries as these are so frustrating for kids when the batteries run out and can’t be replaced immediately. Life is easier, there are fewer dead plastic toys hanging around, and kid is content with the toys he has

Can you see where the sound is coming from? Sometimes it might be a hole. If so, you can put a piece of tape over it.

I had to do this with our Bosch kettle as it had such a loud bleep once it had boiled.

Pretty sure they're always 10x louder when you've just woken up too haha. My DD has a couple where you can have 2 volumes but she's now at an age where she can work out how to put it on the louder one! I think she also has the same steering wheel as I bought something that sounds the same the other week- yes it's very loud!
The thing that mainly annoys me about loud toys is when they also have tunes/songs as they always get stuck in my head randomly in the middle of the night and I can't drop back off to sleep😂
I can remember before I had my DD I bought my friend's DS a light up/noisy and bubble machine train! It's fair to say she's been getting me back for that one since I've had my DD and I can't blame her 😂.

Reason I stick to wooden toys mainly. Can’t be dealing with the awful noise constantly!
