Is it possible physio has broken me?

I dislocated a finger. You wouldn't believe the agro that has caused. 2 months on, whilst it's put back, the ligament damage means I'm still in pain and still can't bend it...at all.

I'm having regular physio on the NHS, the therapist is lovely and until yesterday was doing small manipulations and giving me gentle exercises.

Yesterday was brutal. She's decided it's time the finger was forced to do it's job. TBF she did tell me she'd stop at any time, but she also said it needed doing so I let her carry on despite the pain.

This was yesterday morning. Since then, the finger really hurts, much more than it did before, I still can't bend it and more than that, all I want to do is sleep. Literally cannot keep my eyes open.

Can that be connected?

I'm supposed to do the exercises she did for 10 mins every hour, for two weeks until the next appointment. I just can't see how.

Absolutely they can break you. The physio rebroke dh's ring finger and it healed crooked and still gets sore after 15 years.

Do you mean physically broken your finger?

No, broken me. Why do I feel so exhausted after a physio session on a finger?

I broke my hand a few years ago, had to have a screw put in for a displaced break. The worst part of the whole thing was an avulsion fracture of the tendon in my ring finger. My finger was stuck in a claw position and needed to be manually straightened by the physio which was agony, then they made a hard splint that held it straight that I had to wear overnight for months. The finger still doesn't fully straighten.

It is really really important to follow any instructions they've given for ice/heat and exercises. I had to squeeze a soft ball multiple times a day to keep the tendons and ligaments flexible and build back strength, if I missed a day it would all stiffen back up and become more painful.

If however the pain is unbearable and you are concerned they've actually caused more damage, then contact them and ask for advice.

Yes, it can happen. I won't ever agree to any heavy physio manipulation/massage again. I had a physio 'massage' to my hip when I was having a mild issue and it made it 100x worse. The massage was so painful I couldn't stop laughing (weird reaction, I know). And afterwards the issue when from mild to pretty serious, taking many years to resolve.
