I am 19 and think I have cancer

I’m so scared. I had glandular fever in November confirmed by a blood test. Was really unwell. Still don’t feel great 9 months on. My neck glands are swollen I’m tired all the time, had tonsillitis 3 times.

Had to beg GP to refer me for ultrasound of my neck. He refused first time. Have checked my NHS app and results are on there saying I need further assessment. Have googled results and it sounds like I have lymphoma. But GP surgery texted me to say to book routine telephone appointment. I just rang and offered telephone appointment on 1 September.

Surely I should have an appointment sooner or do they just not care?

Will try and post picture of what scan says.

I am frightened. My mum is on holiday so don’t want to bother her.

Ah right it doesn’t seem it if you have to wait two weeks just for the ultrasound results before they’ll then schedule a biopsy which could be weeks again. Hence why I suggested kicking up a stink, because 2 weeks seems a long time to wait for a repeat ultrasound report to then action it if you’re supposedly on the two week pathway.

@Missveryworried I was unsure to post or not, but I have had a similar experience and it was indeed lymphoma. It would have to be diagnosed by biopsy. I had Epstein Barr virus and then enlarged neck nodes and under arm and then Hodgkin's lymphoma at 19 also. It is most likely not; statistically; but what is important is if it is anything like that ... at 19 you are well able to deal with that, so if is nothing excellent and if it is something, you are at an age to be able to cope physically well with anything that comes your way. You'll be fine, I wish u the best.

Hi just an update. I had an ultrasound scan yesterday and was told I did not need a biopsy as all looks normal. The very nice woman doing the scan said she’s got an enlarged lymph node she’s had for years!

Such a relief and now I can concentrate on my life again! Hoping this thread may reassure others one day.

That’s good news. I’ve only just read your posts or I could have told you earlier I had glandular fever in my 20s and I was still getting swollen glands 2 years later. An extra tiring day at work, bit of extra stress and I could always feel my glands swelling up driving home. Wore off after about 2 and a half - 3 years. IIRC my dd had swollen glands in her stomach ( abdomen anyway) for a long time after glandular fever too.
Now you’ve had your mind put at rest go and plan some fun. You’re young, get out and enjoy yourself 😊
