Weird itching

I'm aware that this could sound a bit bonkers, but I'm curious... Does anyone ever have an itch that they can't locate, or (not sure whether this is related) one that seems to move around?

This only happens occasionally and the moving around version occurs most often at night.

I'm pretty sure it's not an allergy as once I've located and scratched the source of the itch it just goes away, and there's no evidence of any dermatological distress.

Do you have a rash at all?

HauntedbyMagpies · 13/08/2024 22:41

@niadainud Can you give a rough area?! Throat? Back? Stomach/abdomen?

TheCosyRain · 13/08/2024 22:41

My sister calls this chase the itch. I never noticed it until she mentioned it but I get it too. Scratch and itch and then get one somewhere else. And continue

Yes I do. Same as you in that I have an itch that moves around my body and there's no obvious skin issue. I do notice its worse if am hot in bed. I think it might be nocturnal pruritis or I did read it could be perimenopause related.

Yes! It’s weird and irritating.

No, that's what I meant when I said there's no dermatological distress.

Torso mainly but also head and neck sometimes. And limbs!

Thanks, will look up nocturnal pruritis.

Sleeping fleas! I get this when I'm over tired and need to go to bed. I presume it's just nerve endings getting over sensitive.

Joyfulincolour · 14/08/2024 00:04

How old are you @niadainud
Could you be perimenopausal?
There is a condition in peri called formication & it literally feels like your skin is crawling. It was one of my first perimenopausal symptoms & I thought I had fleas or scabies. Once I started on HRT it all went away. It's a sign of the fluctuating hormones.

God I remember that feeling, I was convinced I had insects crawling under my skin on my back, I would get my husband to check I was so convinced, no insects ever found, horrible.

Apileofballyhoo · 14/08/2024 00:19

No, it doesn't feel anything like that. It's not unpleasant, and one light scratch and it's gone.

I have a particular area near one shoulder blade where I have what I call my 'invisible' itch. Invisible in that there seems to be no reason for it.

VanilleFraise · 14/08/2024 09:05

Could itbe described as a "stabby itch"?
How long has it been going on for?
