If you could move anywhere…

If you have kids, and a European passport, where would you move to (UK or worldwide).

We’re thinking about making a big move. We can work anywhere (we have 2 kids). Blue sky thinking, where would you go?

Considering I moved back from Canada yesterday I’m going to say….. Devon 😂

I know that’s not what you were lookin for though!! But I’m absolutely thrilled to be home!

Somewhere in Italy, maybe Tuscany. I’d keep my house here too. Not too far to visit the kids if they decide not to come and excellent food all around me!

I would stay in the UK. The European countries that that I like are very expensive. Tbh everywhere has its problems, if you scratch below the surface. Pragmatically Norway and Switzerland would be a good choices, they are both wealthy countries and Australia has lots of natural resources and no language barrier. The insects/arachnids, sexism and racism don't quite counter balance the glorious sunshine though.

I’d live in a shack if it was in the middle of a big field.

On the banks of Ullswater. My lifelong dream. Will never happen can't even afford to camp there right now.

Droolylabradors · 12/08/2024 19:41

If I had enough money, South County Dublin. If I had all the money I needed then specifically the Vico Road. Or Sandycove. Hope that isn't too specific?!

@Excanadiangoose that’s interesting, I thought Canada was a great place to live. Welcome back!

We currently live in London. I grew up here. I have always loved it, warts and all. But recently it’s started to feel hard work. We’re lucky to live in a bit of a villagey bubble, but today I went into town and it all felt much grimmer than it ever has before. And obviously there was the horrible incident in Leicester Square. I’d already been on super alert because everything just felt a bit vibey.

I speak Spanish so could theoretically find somewhere to live there, but maybe I have rose tinted glasses on.

I would move to a little seaside town in Pembrokeshire that I have fallen in love with unspoilt by mass tourism .

Excanadiangoose · 12/08/2024 21:54

@Slowhorses1 it definitely was, years ago!

I have been home for one full day and so far I have made a GP appointment, haven’t seen any homeless people, haven’t smelt strong weed, haven’t worried about guns and I’ve been able to apply for several jobs with good pay & wonderful (albeit statutory) annual leave!

All things I couldn’t do 2 days ago in Canada… ☺️

I am sure that there are some nice bits - everywhere has nice areas and everywhere has problems. I just ran out of patience in the end!

I’d stick with where we are in the UK (lovely town in Essex, London and Cambridge both close by) but would spend much more time in France. We have a chalet in the mountains but only get to use it ourselves a couple of weeks a year at the moment.

I’m half French, with in-laws also spending half the year in France so know too much about France to want to live there permanently,

I have friends all over the world and while their lifestyles suit them (my best friend is in Eswatini), their qualities of life are no better than my family’s.
