Any experiences of trusts after a death?

(Namechanged for this)

Has anyone got any experience of setting up /benefiting from a trust, set up to manage money received after a bereavement?

My sibling has died recently. They had 2 children, one under 18 who is estranged from the father.

The children are due to receive some money - pensions, Death in Service etc. Neither child can manage money yet, it could be catastrophic so I believe trusts are needed but I have no experience...

Has anyone got any advice please?

Ask in Legal Matters rather than chat.

But you'll definitely need competent legal advice.

Do they automatically get it when they're 21?
Can you access it, or delay payout if they're not ready?

Yes, I wondered if I should have posted there instead/also. But I also wanted advice from people who'd had a trust themselves or had to sectioned up for others, not just from lawyers!

Do you know what type of lawyer?

Go on the website of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. They have a member directory where you can find someone qualified. You need a private client solicitor. Look for someone with the designation TEP. STEP also has a website of advice for the public called Advising Families which has lots of useful information.

Oh, that is very useful advice, thank you.
