Reading festival - food ideas!

Hoping to get some ideas for DS who is heading off to the festival at the end of the month. All other worries aside what can folk recommend that will keep him going? Zero electricity so must be long-life, chance to pop out at some point for refills but is on foot/bus.

I know he can buy stuff from food vans on site - is it really expensive? Do they have enough?

Thanks in advance

Bananas, crisps, cereal bars. But honestly food will be low priority-it will be pricey there but part of the package. There will be plenty! If he’s old enough for a festival he’s old enough to sort his own food

Noodles. Lots of noodles. They can get those refillable hot water mugs topped up as often as they like, which are ideal for pot noodles and ramen and that sort of thing.

The onsite food is insanely expensive. Tell him to take lots of protein/cereal bars etc to keep him from getting hungry. A couple of packets of biscuits wouldn’t go amiss either, and a big bottle of smoothie for the first day. Instant hot chocolate sachets are good too.

After that he’ll be a fruit and vegetable-free zone, so have something in at home to feed him when he gets back.

DD is going, Food is horrifically expensive.

They are intending to live off Pot Noodles and Instant Porridge - both of which can be made just with boiling water.

Ahaha the hot chocolate sachets will likely get binned for something stronger.

Pot noodles
Pot porridge
Grenade bars
Sharing bags of crisps.

Beer. Better to have beer than spirits.

There is Tesco Extra a walking distance from the festival. Lots of ‘kids’ from the festival go to stock up there. On Oxford Road ( walking distance) you have the usual - Mc Donald’s, KFC, Subway, Pizza Hut, etc.+ some independent places as well if he wants to treat himself.Lidl is also walking distance but not as close as Tesco.

For an idea of food cost in festivals - last week we were at Y Not festival, for 3 hotdogs and 1 tray of chips it cost £44.95.

£4.50 for a cone of ice cream and £9 for 5 churros!

Buy the pot noodles, the camping stove and some gas! Or get a loan 🤣

Last year DD took crisps, apples, cereal bars, mini brioches, fruit roll up things. They ate all of it in addition to the very expensive on site stuff. And yes, there were no hot drinks being drunk. After tents are set up, everyone heads out to stock up on booze. There can't have been any vodka left in a 20 mile radius.

We used to take noodles, a breakfast hash thing that comes in a packet from sainsburys, tinned chilli, cereal bars, canned hot dogs, pepperami etc.

Even back in my day the on site food was ridiculously expensive.
