Anyone else mistimed UK holiday weather-wise?!

Going to seaside next week. Lovely cottage booked. And looks like UK weather might be a bit shite, after all this heat... anyone else? And any wise, philosophical or consoling words for me about UK holidays?!

Expect it to be bad so that it feels like a bonus when it's good.

It won't be terrible weather all week. Watch the forecast and plan beach trip for the best days and have other activities planned for when the weather isn't so great. And my kids love swimming in the sea however cold it is so don't expect the weather to spoil the holiday for your kids and it won't.

It would be rammed at the seaside if the weather was like this, you’d get burned and everyone would be hot and snappy with each other.

Grey, drizzly seaside days will be lovely. Wear a jumper, take a flask, shelter somewhere and have an ice cream anyway. And the weather might surprise you!

Thank you both :)
Feeling better already.
Kids are teens and can explore local town and swim in the cold. I'm just a bit gutted that they've ended up spending the sunny weather stuck in their rooms refusing all attempt at wholesome activity. Still...

It’s way too early to know what the weather will be like next week, the forecast changes regularly!

True, although I sort of feel after this heatwave it's bound to go shite, isn't it?!

Usually we miss time. Every bloody summer for the past 4 years we've "missed" the best of the weather. We've played with dates and locations so we've done as soon as the kids broke up in July / early Aug / Mid Aug / last Aug & early Sept.

We've just never quite got it right. Until this year.

We went away whilst London was having 32c and we had at least 23c and sunny for most of our 10 days!! First time in about 6 holiday's though 😂

We've always enjoyed our not so sunny summer holidays but this one was lovely.

You'll be fine I'm sure. The good news is we've never had a whole holiday of terrible weather.

We've had 2 wet and blustery weekends in Cornwall this year. Took waterproofs and got out for walks when the sun was out. Found cosy cafes and read our books. Took some board games. Just embrace the down time.

Depends where you are going. You haven't missed the heatwave in parts of the north. It has rained this morning, an hour of sun and very dark and cloudy just now.

I feel you, OP. We’re away from Saturday for the rest of August, in the UK.

I have a terrible feeling it will be a wet two weeks! No reason why it should be, but surely the whole of August can’t be nice?

We were camping last week and I'm amazed we came back with an intact tent due to the constant wind. I mainly packed shorts and ended up living in my one pair of jeans and a thick jumper. The previous week was glorious, and of course we packed up in the blazing sun which finally made an appearance. Very frustrating!

On the positive side, we found some lovely, cosy pubs to hide out in, the tourist areas and roads were much quieter and I didn't have to spend all week slathered in suncream.
