Help me plan for a scorching day in London with 16YO DD

16 YO DD are in London tomorrow ahead of catching the first Eurostar out on holiday the next morning. I'm disabled and I don't do super well in the summer and I've seen that the heat is going to be horrendous, so our plans have to change. We're thinking a mooch around Westfield then I'd really like to take her somewhere a bit pretty for dinner, preferably somewhere by the water or something.

Tips and ideas to salvage the day now it's going to be scorching would be very welcome!

Re Westfield - if your DD set on it, recommend the earlier the better as quieter then.

She really wants to go to the rubber duck store haha

I'd stay around Granary Sq/ Coal Drops, but if your DD is set on Westfield, get a cab/Uber not tube. Coal drops has lots of cool shops.

I think I know the shop (or perhaps stall) at Westfield! Perhaps quite nr Sephora?

just double check there isn’t one in Coal Drops or even St Pancras station. That area has had lots of redevelopment and it wouldn’t surprise me if there was one

If you’re going to Shepherds Bush the Circle and the Hammersmith & City have air con. Still, don’t forget to take water.

FYI everyone - the Waterstones near Tottenham Court Road station is an ABSOLUTE DREAM for cooling

Curious to know how your day has gone!! Hope you managed to have a lovely day.

I felt like spending all day on the Elizabeth line thanks to the AC! But happy that Waterstones is nice and cool.

Sorry meant to say British Library, not museum.

I think I saw that the British library is an office ‘cool space’.

my friend visiting went to the British Museum today and confirmed that you should absolutely not go there if you want to be cool on a summers day!! X

It does. But you have to go on the tube from KX, which does not.

Oo that’s good to know. I’m just traumatised by a few years ago shopping on Oxford street and absolutely melting without shops having aircon!! Maybe 2018? Though malls of course are different!!

Thanks so much for checking in!

Tbh it hasn't gone the best. DD changed her mind about Westfield so we were unfortunately very nearby the horrible stabbing that happened earlier which put us very on edge all day (though of course infinitely more horrific for the mum and daughter and I've been thinking about them all day).

The heat was truly just horrendous. Off on holiday tomorrow so hopefully it starts to cool down just a bit!

Oh goodness yes. I’m so sorry. Sorry for the mother and daughter of course, but so horrible how it affects the rest of us and of course it makes you anxious.

That stabbing was awful. Thank heavens the security guard was able to intervene effectively. I hope the girl recovers quickly.

Sorry you had a difficult day. There’s a duck shop at Liverpool st station- in the upper arcade. It’s all air conditioned.
