Growth on inner lip, to revisit GP? Pic included

I have been to the doctors and they have referred me to the oral surgeon and have an appointment on 5th September, they believe it's a skin tag on my inner inside lip.
I noticed earlier there is now a black dot on it and don't know whether I should visit the GP again or I should just wait until 5th if September.
Has anyone seen this before as now I am starting to worry.

Get it checked the black spec would be concerning.
My dw had a growth on her upper lip that was removed successfully with little scarring, had to go private unfortunately.
Good luck with getting to the bottom of what it is.

It could be it’s been damaged by something you’ve eaten or accidentally chewed on it or caught it when cleaning our teeth. In not sure you’d get to see the surgeons any quicker than the 5th sept but you can always try by explaining what you can see on it now.

Could be a wart!?

Are/were you a smoker? I'd get it looked at again. Even if they put you on the 2WW, it'll only be a few days earlier, but they may be able to offer some explanation/reassurance.

I'm not to worried about seeing the clinc quicker, I was worried that it has grown further in the past 2 weeks and changed colour in the past few days.
It hangs now lower than my lip and is causing me trouble speaking and eating sometimes. Hopefully they will remove it soon!

Looks like a wart.
Best get it checked sooner than later.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 11/08/2024 23:08

I thought wart too. Doesn’t look like a skin tag.
Hope hospital gets it sorted.

My GP has said to wait until my referral clinic appointment on the 5th. So that's what I'll do! It's not a wart as they are saying it's a skin tag!

The nearest hospital with an appointment this side of Christmas was 90 miles away so I'm in for a fun journey then!

The reason I mentioned the black spec was that on my dw growth it became more prominent over time and it was gratefully benign.

Can you see a dentist any sooner than your gp? They're trained to look for cancer

LaraThot · 12/08/2024 19:33

Wow i had exactly the same (not the black bit) but on roof of mouth at the rear. My GP referred me on the 2 week cancer pathway but said it probably wasnt cancer. I was seen on 14 days and the surgeon was slightly pissed off that id been referred this way as he didnt think it was cancerous at all. He diagnosed it as a "papilloma" and I had a quick visit to oral surgery to have it cut out about 3 days later on a Saturday! It was a case of several injections to numb it then the surgeon (this one called it a "polyp") did 2 quick cuts with the scalpel and it was out. They then cauterised it which was a red hot poker which stopped the bleeding and turned it black! Entirely painless though after the injections but paracetamol on and off for a day or so after. They did a biopsy on the papilloma and came back all clear as expected. I wondered what caused it but they had no answers. I wondered if it was HPV but they didn't know. All in all a very swift service.

Hey, sorry to open this thread up again. I have similar and just wondering what this turned out to be?

Purplerainpurplesky · 24/06/2025 20:32

It's was a benign growth, they removed it. From mouth trauma about 2 yes prior where I had a fall and hit my face didn't even link the two together as at the time there was no damage to my mouth
