Is the a way to get my CD collection into itunes?

Just that really! I have hundreds of CDs that I would like to be able to play on my iphone. I don’t own a CD-drive, I can buy one if it will help, but once I have ripped the music to a laptop (assuming that is still possible like it used to be 15-20 years ago when I last tried), is there a way of getting the files into my phone music library?

Thanks for any help.

Technically you can probably do it but it would be hard and take ages. Maybe save them as mp3 files on to the cloud then use a media player on your phone. Or you could just get the cheapest Spotify subscription and access all your albums from there very easily and make playlists of whichever ones you want to put together.

I recall doing this when I first got an iPod around 25 years ago when my computer had a cd drive. It took a lot of effort, weeks.
Honestly it's not worth the effort, the technology is so out of date. Just get basic spotify.

Yes, you can rip in ITunes using a CD drive (cheap online) and then copy to your phone. Apple Lossless will sound best but MP3 or AAC will take less space. If you used MP3 or AAC, avoid bit rates less than 256 unless it's spoken word

Well I did that not all that many years ago! It really wasn’t difficult although I don’t know if iTunes has changed as I stopped using it. Basically I used a cd drive and ripped the cds straight into iTunes from within the program. It saves them into your library. I also had a subscription which I stopped, all the albums I put in myself are still there. Think of it as just another media player software.

Also did this 20 years ago. As PP have said it’s no longer necessary - Spotify, Amazon Music unlimited. I think even iTunes allows unlimited plays.
I’m not a fan of having to pay subscription to play music “I already paid for” but it’s a lot better than hours and hours of ripping - which in my case only accepted certain tracks from some albums.

Personally, I prefer to own my music. I still buy some cds, often from eBay, and like that I will have them to listen to as and when I want to, without keeping a subs going.

Technically yes if you want to spend hours of your life pissing about with antiquated equipment and software.

Realistically just get Spotify.

I did this with all my CDs so I could add them to my iPod. The last time I did it was a few months ago. I have a lap top with a CD thingy in it so that possibly makes it much easier. My friends think I’m mad but I bloody love my iPod and am loathed to pay a monthly subscription for music. Yes I’m a dinosaur.

Thanks for the tips! I agree with those who say they like to own their music rather than pay a subscription - I’m the same. Happy to pay a subscription for TV because I rarely watch a film or Tv show more than once and if it gets more expensive I can just cancel and not really miss what I had.

But with music I listen to it over and over. If Spotify up their subscription I am captive to that. Am much happier owning and tend to buy tracks and albums I like using Apple itunes store, usually costs about as much as a CD used to.

My DH does this too. Spends hours fiddling with it all. Drives me mad, tbh! I offered to buy him a subscription but no.

You could have a cd player with Bluetooth capability so you could listen through wireless headphones. That would give you another option for listening around the house.
